Been looking at Audiophile fuses and thinking do they really make a difference or is it just another product to get more money out of us poor hifi heads? Seems a lot of money for a nicely named fuse. What are your thoughts, has anybody tried or using them and do they actually make a difference in sound? Thanks

Try a cheaper one first and find out if you can hear a difference

Definitely makes a difference. Wouldn't be without mine
Start either with a cheaper one 2nd hand or one with a 30 day return

Yes, they do make a difference. An AMR Gold is a pleasant step up right up to an SR Purple that will transform your digital components.

Indeed, make it appropriate to the system, as with cables. No point using special fuses until your system is well sorted.

Yes some can work wonders on a well sorted system Mains / Appliance inlet / Internal PCB NB - Make sure they are approved & fit the same ratings - see your manual or fuse end caps Eg F1/250 Fast blow / 250v . T1/250 slow blow 250volts IEC127 / BS1632 Fuses are a safety device no point in a better sounding Hifi when your are homeless

Yes, fuses can have a very positive effect on sound quality... BUT, they find themselves at the bottom tier with more important things to attend to prior to their placement. I think of perfecting a good system in three tiers of implementation sequence: Tier One: Speakers, Amplifier, Player, DAC, Basic Power and Interface Cabling, Network Gear Tier Two: Power Supplies, DDC, Power Conditioning Tier Three: Fuses, Room Treatments, Contact Enhancer, Upgraded Interface Cabling If Tiers One and Two are properly attended to then the effects of Tier Three items can be much more impactful.

Synergistic Research FusesI thought I'd summarise the SR fuse range since it can be confusing and there are lots of used ones on eBay (which are definitely worth picking up for trials or the cost conscious). SR-20About on a par with a HiFi Tuning Supreme. SR RedA good basic fuse, better than a stock fuse and more consistent. Starts you on the path to a bit more detail, midrange body, soundstage, bass. Loads available used. SR BlackCan't remember them much but if memory recalls they're variable and not that nice. Avoid. SR BlueHorrid, warm, homogeneous, muddy. Not recommended in any system. SR OrangeSuperb - over the Red there is more body, better voice, bigger sounstage, tighter bass. Really good for regenerators, power supplies etc. Becoming hard to obtain. SR PurpleA fantastic fuse for digital equipment, could prove over the top for the whole system unless you're using, say, BBC speakers. Incredible midrange clarity, wide and deep soundstage are the key ingredients over the Orange. SR MasterNever heard one so cannot comment. I believe Fro could?

SR Master - 1 in DA and 1 in Music Server. Increased clarity and imaging really opened up. Weird that it took a few days to open up. Thanks!

Just ordered my first Purple fuse to side alongside my Oranges. Which component are you putting it in? To replace what fuse? I'll be interested in your findings. I have found SR Purples outstanding in digital components.

I put a Purple in my Dac last year to replace a Blue. It was a nice upgrade.

I put a Purple in my Dac last year to replace a Blue. It was a nice upgrade. I would hope so - the SR Blue is pretty awful. I had two and couldn't wait to get rid of them.

I am replacing an Orange, but that Orange is going into my Blu-ray player, which currently has an entry level hifi tuning fuse in it. So that change alone should be a good step up.
The Purple, I am going to start with the main plug out of the wall. See how that works out, then move to my DAC/Processor and see what impact that has.

Good luck and do report back.
Even the HiFi Tuning could be passed down to something else with a stock fuse?

Yes, forgot to mention it’s going to one of the TV’s. 👍
Will do.

MartinT How did you conclude that having the Purple fuses in your streamer and DAC was the best place over the regenerators or power supplies, or amp for that matter? Thanks in advance.
