My parcel arrived via Evri with no hassles, so that's two lost, and two delivered so far. Of course, they couldn't just deliver it and let me forget about it, so this afternoon I received an email from them. And the tracking details are now as follows... It was delivered just after 10:00. Even when they get something right they seem to be doing their level best to get something wrong.

This promising a delivery on a set date and then slipping to the next day is becoming a habit with them.
I gave them a chance, and they've proven they're just another incarnation of Herpes.

Have you noticed that most of the companies will advertise 24-hour, or 48-hour courier services, but when you read on a bit it's always " we aim to..." and " We'll do our best to...."? Royal Mail Tracked 48 ® actually specifies " Aims to deliver in two to three working days," among its " features", and Evri's " Next Day delivery" states that "... we’ll do our best to deliver the next working day." No promises, despite the ones implied by the name givern to the services, just " We'll give it a go, and if we fuck up, tough, cos we've got your money AND your parcel now." .

Naming a service that sounds like a specification may be dubious, but it's not new. I'm reading "Vivian Stanshall: A Fairytale of Gothic Art" by Ki Longfellow (his widow) at the moment and have just read a section that includes as anecdote from Larry Legs Smith, who was a bit lapse regards his laundry it seems. On one occasion when he ran out of clothes he took them all to a shop in the East End called, "One Hour Cleaning". After handing the clothes over he said he'd be back in an hour to collect them to which the owner replied, "Oh no, Tuesday at the earliest". When challenged he explained that "One Hour Cleaning" was just the name of the shop!
Similarly, there used to be a company called Air Conditioned Coaches that ran a service between Nairobi and Mombassa. Guess what?...

I forgot to mention Amazon, who, yet again " got it wrong" today. I ordered something and took advantge of their " named day" delivery service. I wanted it tomorrow. It stated in my account that it was due to be delivered tomorrow, right up until it was delivered at lunchtime today. Why on earth do they seem to think they're doing you a favour by delivering early? They're the ones offering the named day service. Surely they must realise that if you specify a particular day there's usually a good reason for it. Luckily, I was available to accept the delivery today, but I'd thought I might not be, hence requesting delivery for tomorrow, when I was as certain as I could be that I'd be here. p.s. No emails from Evri so far, to inform me when they expect to deliver the parcel they delivered yesterday.

I've also just been annoyed by DPD. I organised for my Samsung tablet to be collected on Thursday, when I know Ruth will be around. I got a message from DPD that I will receive my 'delivery' tomorrow. Grrr!

I guess it's a combination of deploying their staff as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible for DPD and Amazon in the above examples, while using the " Hey, we got it to you / got to you, even earlier than you expected, aren't we wonderul?" excuse. Well, on behalf of Martin and myself, guys, no you're NOT wonderful, you're f*cking annoying.

This stuff gets dafter by the day. I've just ordered three things from Amazon. This time there was no option to choose a particular day for them to be delivered, so they're arriving tommorrow. ...and on Thursday. ...and on Friday.

I've got an order in with Amazon, which is supposed to be delivered today, by 20:00. It's not even " out for delivery" yet. at 17:55. Amazon tracking tells me Dispathced Sunday, 18 September - Carrier picked up the package. Courier tracking says " We're expecting it". Guess who the courier is. Yup. Bloody Evri/Herpes again. I wonder if they've lost yet another of my parcels. In the meantime, my new Internet/Dab/FM tuner has vanished into the bowels of the Royal Mail with the message " There was an issue whilst your package was in transit. We'll update you as soon as more info is available". It was in Felixstowe on Tuesday. Heaven only knows where it is now. I did, however, receive my new watch today, with zero hassle, and also my new " QED Reference Audio 40 cable," which was only notable for the tracking indicating that I'd picked it up personally, in Glasgow, a few hours before it was actually dispatched and accepted by Royal Mail. I really am starting to take all of this stuff personally. Looks like I'll be having a fight with Amazon tomorrow. You know, the one where they end up telling you to wait for 2 weeks and if it still hasn't arrived, speak to them again, despite the fact that you know precisely what's happened to it.

Oh no! I refuse to use Evri/Herpes for anything now. For inexpensive UK shipping I'll use DPD, for anything international I prefer FedEx. I did see that Royal Mail disruption message on tracking a package of fuses to me but they arrived on time.
Just remember in trying times like this, there used to be a courier company called City Link. They were utter sh1t with a capital merde.

Trust me, I would never again use Evri by choice. There was no indication that they were being used by the vendor on Amazon until the order was in and they'd been theoretically dispatched.

Royal Mail let me down today and the strike doesn't start till the 29th!
Particularly galling as I decided to upgrade to Tracked 24 so my eBay buyer had a better chance of getting the item on time. Now it will be more like a 48 hr delivery if I'm very lucky ...

Does anyone know how to speak or online chat with a human being at Evri?
All my efforts with the 'chat' or phone won't let me get past their digital automated answers no matter what I do.
They claimed to try to deliver last night and posted a photo of a block down the road from me. Utterly hopeless buffoonery.
