Companies can change for better or worse over time of course. I'll stick with UPS until they give me a reason not to.

I ordered an item from a company in Manchester, and they dispatched via Hermes on 4th Dec.
Since 7th Dec Hermes are telling me they have my parcel, but it is delayed due to ferry problems. Go figure.
Neither the supplier, or myself can get any sense from Hermes, and as far as their customer service goes it's non existent.

Just a minor word of warning regarding using TNT / Fedex for international deliveries.
I was surprised that I got my item from Hong Kong so quickly but found out why as what they do is to pay the Duty and VAT on your behalf to avoid delays, then invoice you for it after your delivery has arrived.
This of course speeds things up but you get an extra £20 on your bill for the privilege, what they call a "Deferment Processing Fee". Not a huge deal but worth being aware of.

I can't fault my latest DPD delivery.
Email yesterday to say my parcel would be delivered today Email today giving me a one-hour delivery slot, and the name of the driver.
SMS messages at every stage to confirm.
SMS message to tell me that my driver, "Christian," is a few minutes away.
The parcel arrived while I was typing this.
SMS message and email to confirm delivery.

Nice one Paul.
I had another niggle with TNT (soon to be FedEx Express) ...
They are conveniently not accepting credit card payments for customs charges right now, so I had to make a BACS payment.
That will be saving them a tidy sum.

My package from NZ has arrived in the UK and cleared customs after charges being applied.
My heart then sank when I realised the UK handlers are Parcelfarce. Firstly, they're going to write to me with the charges. Have they never heard of e-mail? More seriously, what 'handling' charge am I going to see, together with a no doubt inflated customs and VAT charge?

Good luck with that Martin.
At least you won't have to go to one of their depots to pick it up. The one in North London is like going back to the 70's ...

The one I used to go to in Reading had a sign warning customers about abusing the staff.
They had it wrong - it was the staff who were sullen and rude. Every. Single. Time.

My final two pieces of computer are arriving by DPD again (memory) and Herpes (mobo) so I'm cautiously happy.

One teensy-weensy black mark against DPD: Their local depot is a bit too bloomin' local. My PC memory arrived at 08:16 this morning. I was NOT compus mentis after reading until well after 03:00.

Very useful app - Parcels for Android. Track all your parcels, no matter the shipping company.

Neither the supplier, or myself can get any sense from Hermes, and as far as their customer service goes it's non existent. In the end up, the supplier gave me a refund. So, I reordered the item from another supplier, and the delivery was entrusted to Hermes. They advised me it was out for delivery on Thursday, and then revised it to Friday (today) between 12:00 and 16:00. Guess what --- no fecking parcel, and as per usual, no way to get anyone from Hermes to sort it out. *

Very annoying.
I presume you've tried the on-line chat facility on the Hermes website?

Oh to be able to speak to a real human being. * Indeed - I assumed that calling them would enable this but when I phoned, all it did was track my item and give me the same info I already had! Our local Hermes courier is great 9/10 but of course when things go wrong it's very frustrating.

Oh great. I ordered a few polo shirts from eBay, and I've just received an email telling me how much Evri is looking forward to delivering them. For those who haven't heard, Evri is the new name of Hermes. The rebranding took place in March 2022.
Now I know Hermes got a lot of grief, but personally, I never had a single problem with them, and my regular delivery lady was always helpful, and friendly.. My next-door-neighbour felt the same, and we often took in parcels for each other.
Since Hermes became Evri I have had three deliveries using them, two of which they lost.
This will be consignment #4. Will they level up to a 2 - 2 draw, or will they suffer a disastrous 3 - 1 defeat?
I'm not going to be surprised if they f*ck up again.
A quick word about their customer service too, it's non-existent, or as good as. Their "Help centre" is impenetrable for anything but the most mundane of enquiries. They will happily send you updates and pleasantries until they drop the ball, after which it's "You don't talk to us. Contact the seller and THEY talk to us, and then talk to you, but only do that if we've had your item for seven days, or more".
In December, an investigation by The Times revealed instances of parcels allegedly being thrown against walls, with one depot manager telling the reporter “all you can do is act totally stupid” if an angry customer complains.
Another employee is reported to have said: “You’ve got f**ing big houses to go to, they’ve got massive gates. You’ve got to wait for the c***s to open It (sic).
“Best thing to do is just f***ing chuck [the parcel] over the gate.”
On an episode in April 2020 of Channel 4's consumer show Joe Lycett's Got Your Back, it was shown that Hermes was sending parcels they claimed were undeliverable to an auction house. Many goods auctioned off had legible names, addresses and tracking numbers
The name change was, apparently, so they could shrug off their reputation as Hermes, and start with a "clean slate," as Evri. From where I'm sitting it's becuse Evri parcel you send has Evri chance of going missing.
