Cannot make the Pi accept any other sound signal. EG. Sample Allmusic or Amazon I don't imagine you'll have much success there Mike, no matter what you try! It would need someone to write a plug-in for Volumio to go and fetch those files from the web pages that they are on.

Agreed, you have plug-ins for Spotify and YouTube, you have internet radio and you have the ability to use local files on different machines.

That's a pain.
Does Volumio have total control over the Pi ?

Volumio is to the Pi what Windows is to a PC It's an operating system that deals only with music.

Why don't you just find those tracks that you want to play on Spotify or YouTube?

I prefer 30 seconds per track to whizz through the album. Usually that is enough to either buy, run away from or investigate further. Often the album is not on Spotty, sometimes not on Youtube.

If it's only 30 second snippets on a website, I doubt it's super high resolution, so you'd probably be as well just sticking to the laptop speakers for that anyway, wouldn't you?

Is there any way to make the Pi a Chromecast endpoint? That's a possible route forward, although one I suspect that is very firmly barred, because of the hardware investment Google has made in Chromecast devices.
You can browse Allmusic (using Google Chrome) on your laptop, and cast to a Chromecast device.

Will also have a good look around Amazon Firestick to see if I can access their own sampling Kodi might also get me to that

Need to get out of a Spotify loop.
Spotty free is on my desktop PC upstairs. Want Spotty free on my laptop and struggling. First question before I download to the laptop is my email "Already registered" Yes, I know that. First thought is to put an alternate email address. Would rather stay with the one.
Best way around this anyone ?

I think you need to choose 'Sign In' or 'Log In' instead of 'Register' or some such. You can have the software on several machines but use one single account on each of them. Just not at the same time.

What you need to do, though, is stop wasting time with Spotify Free and get Spotify Premium so that you can use that nice Pi of yours!

Baby steps. Not totally convinced on Spotty. 1. They still don't have a lot of albums I search for. 2. What happens if Spotty implodes ? 3. YouTube is good and often has the albums Spotty doesn't. 4. Going through the mental work required to virtually ignore a lot of LPs and CDs and *trust* an outside source 5. Change !

Going through the mental work required to virtually ignore a lot of LPs and CDs and *trust* an outside source 5. Change ! Let's take the points you raise in order. 1. How about giving some examples? The key to getting the best out of a search facility is to learn how best to use it. 2. You move onto something else - the most you're going to be out of pocket is £9.99 . 3. Youtube has some pretty horrendous data compression applied. The artists whose albums are listed do not get paid a penny if they didn't put them there. 4. Why ignore your local library? I certainly do not. Use Spotify for stuff that you don't have, and play the local stuff. If you're feeling lazy, or can't move because you've had an injury use Spotify. 5. This is the crux of the biscuit. Everything changes. Nothing stays the same forever. I'm surprised that you raise it as an issue. Change is inevitable.
