I've been using Netflix while step-daughter is around. It seems good but I'm damned if I'm going to pay for that as well as Sky. I need to think about whether I'm going to go with Sky Q or not. I really want F1 in 4K and the Sky HD channels, so I guess that answers the question. With regard to Netflix, how do you find the lipsync? I'm using a Chromecast and it's pretty awful! I don't recall it being that bad using the laptop to stream it. Others like BBC iPlayer, All4, SVTplay etc are fine..

I've had no problem with lipsync that I've noticed. This is using the Netflix app on the TV with ARC audio return to the system.

A decent AV amp will let you set the lipsync delay.

The Sky HD box allows lipsync adjustment, which is welcome as it needs a tweak. My Pioneer Blu-ray player only has two settings: poor and poorer! It varies with the disc and is usually just acceptable.

A decent AV amp will let you set the lipsync delay. Delay yes, but not advance the audio, they cannot do that. Some TVs can allow for it though.

Freeview is fine, other Chromecast and laptop streamed are fine. Only Netflix over Chromecast is a problem. Don't think I can change that just for Netflix.. Only Netflix so not internet.

I have to say, our new this summer, Panasonic smart TV performed superbly with Amazon Prime's US Open tennis coverage. The app was easy to use and never missed a beat. For those that didn't know, Sky and Eurosport lost out to Amazon for sole rights to show the US Open in the UK and Ireland. They have also pinched the UK's televising of the ATP tour matches that Sky was showing for years. The latter didn't bother me as I watch far more matches and have better coverage of the ATP tour on the ATP's own TennisTV web broadcasts. Anyway, many tennis lovers had problems with older smart sets, firesticks, poor picture etc etc and for some reason a bug in either Samsung sets or Amazon Prime caused them not to work at all! Coupled to that the night matches weren't screened the next day, and only after a real panning on there own review system which was then picked up by the baying wolf British media did things slowly start to improve! Even by day 10 of the two week tournament I was emailing, tweeting etc that night matches were still not there in the morning UK time. Some matches were there but started with the winners interview! Nice! Someone at Amazon must have been for the high jump! For a major player like Amazon to F it up as badly as they did was spectacularly bad! They even disabled the review system! To stem the tide of disgruntled tennis fans. Most would have given 0 stars, except you can't give less than one! The comments were scathingly! Media picks it up.. www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/aug/29/amazon-stops-bad-reviews-us-open-coverage-after-complaintsOne of my complaints is even paraphrased there By Day 13 they actually had got it 'good enough' and I didn't need to complain! Ho hum, is there no proper, unit test, function test, integration test, system test and customer acceptance testing, before these things go live. Ah yes, I forgot diva SW developers don't like testing Makes them feel bad and clips their creative, sensitive little wings haha! Sorry to any decent SW Dev teams who do it right.. To make things worse they did show the Queens pre Wimbledon tournament - I did not watch that on Amazon as it was on BBC / TennisTV for me, so can't critique that. I won't hold my breath on the coming ATP coverage. I have TennisTV anyway. Smart systems, not always so smart.

As anyone associated with the rollout of new software will tell you, you can spend months testing all of the real-world situations you and your team can come up with, even the most outlandish ones you can imagine, and then the first user will do two things you didn't know were possible, at the same time, and break it.

Queens should have had a whole lot of Mike! A whole week of Mike and his pals in fact! With two months between the two, the US open was just a fiasco!

There is only one Mike How was all your tech after I visited ? Just fine. You didn't touch anything I had a friend at school who destroyed watches, analogue watches back then. They just stopped working, He did not break them physically. He got a Sinclair watch. That lasted very well - maybe it was his way of getting a first digital watch. I'll never know.

I replaced the interconnect from Caiman-II DAC to Sony amplifier in our AV system today. A Yannis silver ConnectLitz became free after I replaced it with a Black Cat in the main system. It was certainly a worthwhile change and better than leaving the Yannis in the box of spares. Replacing a QED Qunex 1 it sounds considerably more detailed and focussed, with more bass welly too.

I'd been having trouble getting anything 4K from the Sky Q box to the TV, my Chinese 4K switcher with ARC return being the culprit (but without it I'd have no AV sound). Everything in Netflix announced itself as HD or Dolby Vision only. I then went back to the Netflix app in the LG TV itself, sending just the audio down the HDMI cable. Bingo - some programming announcing itself as 4K and it plays perfectly over the TV's wi-fi. Good result seeing as I shall kick Sky Q at some point. The LG also has the Now TV app so no need for a dongle when I move us over.
