Our Panasonic plasma finally dimmed. Got a 50" Panasonic 4K. Thought 3 HDMI would be plenty and lots of usb sockets (what are they for?) More have, Digi box in one hdmi. Laptop in the other, Chrome cast in the third. 1 USB socket powers the Chrome cast.. Once I set the picture to how we like it (love the fact that each source remembers your prefered picture set up), the picture really is good. Wouldn't go back now. Chrome cast for Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, TennisTV, WTATV, any other catch up service like All4, SwedishTV (SVTplay) & Pornhub (No wait that shouldn't be here should it from apps on my phone is a revelation of convenience. All good HD. Laptop is rarely used now. There is quite a lot of 4K content on YouTube for testing.. Onwards and upwards.. So Martin, def more than one hdmi cable I'm tempted by the Sonos sound bar esp the new smaller one. Will get it on their 100 day trial system I think.

I use an HDMI switcher with ARC for audio return into the DAC, so definitely only one HDMI cable feed to the TV

The three hdmi we have (one of which is ARC) are going to get busy on the back of the set! The Sonos Beam uses the ARC hdmi to get sound, control the TV on off and other things by voice. The other two hdmi sockets would be Digibox and Chrome cast, leaving the laptop out in the cold. Admittedly, with Chrome cast we hardly ever use the laptop, would for file based video and dvds but we virtually never play any.

Yes the switcher is remote controlled and will sit next to the DAC, well away from the TV.

It came with a little remote of its own. However, I set it to auto and it mostly switches on its own, both HDMI and sound, which is excellent.

Report (much) later.

Too complicated, more parts required. Half day booked for next week.

Too complicated, more parts required. Half day booked for next week. Sounds familiar. I've got a problem with my main stopcock and they need to take out 3 kitchen cupboards (and hopefully put them back again) to work on it.

For us it's the fireplace that needs avoiding, so long angled drilling required.

For us it's the fireplace that needs avoiding, so long angled drilling required. Did that back in our Bisley house when we fitted a new gas fire with the pipe work right at the back of the hole in the wall. You can get exceptionally long masonry drills

Decide to trial the Sonos Beam speaker bar. It takes its feed from the TV via the ARC Hdmi socket. It can also control the TV for some functions. The two Sonos ones will be used for rear speakers in a surround system and/or a stereo pair if I don't like the surround system playing music. Slippery slope would be adding the Sonos woofer for full 5.1. We'll see. The Beam will become the Lan connected speaker providing the mesh wifi network for the other Sonos speakers. That's good is you have a multi room system as each speaker adds load on your WiFi router otherwise. I've currently connected my phone to the Sonos mesh network instead of via my router. Performance is about the same..

Half way through drilling with holes and dust everywhere, Ruth walks in. "Will it all be made good?", she asks.
No, we were going to leave it just like that.

We seem to be entangled in some sort of Hellish synchronization, Martin. I've currently got part of the contents of my kitchen in the living room, three kitchen cupboards removed and residing in pieces, in the hall, and a bloody great hole in the kitchen wall where the stopcock is.

Make good - ah bless Hope it's going well. I got the Sonos Beam on 100 day try or return, and they pay the return! It's everything I'd hoped for TV sound wise. Of course miles better than the built in TV speakers. In our smallish sitting room you just don't need a sub. The bass gets right down there. The organ playing the bass line on my fav track 10 of Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble The four seasons is clearly audible right to its lowest range, even on lowish vols, same for Joan as police woman's Flash track Music wise, once I'd found the setting in the app room EQ to set all playing at the same volume (music only, TV sound does it's surround sound thing), they really rock. Quite good enough for casual / social listening. Now I really want a stereo pair in both kitchen and lounge Slippery slope.. hell can't take it with you

Where's the subwoofer going, Martin? It would fit in perfectly under the lefthand speaker.
