Benefit in taking dry leaves rather than letting rain come and add vast weight Chestnuts for me this morning with a few leaves

Another back-breaking clear up today. I have the leaf blower mastered to a fine art, but the motion of shovelling leaves and detritus into endless wheelbarrow loads is not so easy on my back or my heart rate.

Grab a Hippo (large builders) bag to load on the wheelbarrow

Tried that - it ends up too heavy (yes, really) when full.

I only have to be careful keeping it on the wheelbarrow

After the storm last night, the trees dumped twice as many chestnut shells and leaves as previous weekends. I am broken from shovelling and wheelbarrowing.
I would have strong words with those trees, but I don't think they'll listen.

Reasonable day today. Few minutes first thing even though I could barely see at whatever time it was Then out the front to the road just now where the poplars are dumping. About 75% done - but that's only what was on the ground, more to fall. The heavy rain makes them so much heavier
In the back garden there are areas I have done 3 times now, still more to fall. Compost heap now peaks at 6 foot
Guess I'm ahead of where I was last year

How are you getting the leaves to the compost heap? Can you drag them on a tarp or blanket?
I can have 20 bags worth of leaves to the heap in half an hour by just piling them on a large tarp while raking.

Bulk bag used for builders supplies, about 4 feet cubed on a wheelbarrow Must try the tarp in the back garden though

We had one bulk bag left, but unfortunately in dragging it so much it's got holes in the bottom now.

Mine has a hole but not seeming to lose any leaves through it

Did the road and verge a few weeks back. Most of the leaves with a few more to fall. Went back on Monday to finish off. A bulk bag full or less I estimated Wrong Did two, crammed full, heavy on the wheelbarrow Went back yesterday to finish off and did another one and a half.
So many leaves now preparing themselves for compost for our lousy soil

Been at my parents house most nights in last 3 weeks. Had to rake then rerake entire property two more times as all the neighbors leaves just end up on their property. Plenty of bagging to do.
Around here everyone is using tall paper tubes for bagging. Got around 15 of those stuffed and 2 nights ago was finally able to just tarp up a few piles and drag them to compost heap. Can tarp 8 bags worth in 15 minutes.
Chopping wood each night in between raking/bagging. Enjoyable tbh.

Ok so it's like paper bags at the grocery store except they are about 4 feet tall.
No matter how much you stuff them they never get wide in the middle. They just fill up to the top until you can't fit anymore leaves in. But they do get heavy
