We have trees so huge that they would endanger our entire barn. Or the lane. Or humans.
I wouldn't be without them, but do wish they were evergreens!

Nonononono I love my trees. We need the shade in the increasingly long and hot summers. The effects on my body are surprising To quote Viv Stanshall I am now 2 separate gorillas

We went out and did another hour today. Brrr, it was a lot chillier than yesterday. The fog is drawing in, too.

I've raked off the lawn seen from the house. And keeping the (thankfully short) drive clear. Leaving the outside grass verge uncleared as an experiment - the forest trees have extended so much over the years that the sunlight is drastically reduced now so grass struggles anyway.

My first year raking onto flower beds. By no means perfect as something is pushing leaves back onto the grass By next year I'll have a clear idea on the success of that or not

It helps if you throw bodies at it. Do you have extra manpower? I'm guessing not.

The experiment
Raking leaves onto flower beds to rot down there instead of collecting, taking to compost heap and waiting a year or so
does not work
Won't do that again

I've raked off the lawn seen from the house. And keeping the (thankfully short) drive clear. Leaving the outside grass verge uncleared as an experiment - the forest trees have extended so much over the years that the sunlight is drastically reduced now so grass struggles anyway. My leafy experiment did work! Leaving the abundant oak leaf cover on the grass verges has actually improved the verges from previous years. The southern and most open half of the verge (probably about 100 metres long all told) divested itself of leaf cover because of winter winds. The northern and more sheltered half remained leaf covered but the warm dry weather a week or two ago dried the leaves out and it was trivial just to scoop them up and pop them in a bin. The only thing that aggravates me is thinking of the back breaking effort of previous years raking up piles of wet leaves in late autumn / early winter! I shan't do that again.

Good to hear
The grass is really better leaving leaves on all through the winter ? I thought the leaves would kill the grass or turn it to mush
We can work out a perfect way

It's not the leaves on grass that's our problem. It's the leaves all over the drive and patio. Without clearing it all, it would mulch down into mud.

I left leaves on the edges of the gravel drive and they went to mulch but then raked up in Feb quite easily to my surprise

I've started raking leaves already. Couple of minutes a day to start while the dogs exercise after their release from night time accommodation.
Raking onto flower beds not a winner last year although I am told certain flower beds should be covered in leaves.

Yep, we started on Sunday. Spent an hour leaf and shell blowing and wheelbarrowing it away. That's where snow shovels come in handy.
