RIP Phil Chen.
Phil Chen (born 25 December 1940 - 14 December 2021) was a well-known Jamaican bassist. He was one of England's most utilized session bassists during the 1970s and 1980s, including Jeff Beck, and the Rod Stewart band from 1977 to 1980, but is probably best known for his later work with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors.
He first joined Jimmy James and the Vagabonds before realizing that he could make much more money as a session musician. He went on to record with Jeff Beck (identified as "Phil Chenn" on the album cover) on his album Blow by Blow, Donovan on Cosmic Wheels and Joan Armatrading on Back to the Night. He also joined The Butts Band led by Doors members Robby Krieger and John Densmore and recorded their self-titled debut with them. He is also known for having been a member of Brian May's Star Fleet Project, along with Eddie Van Halen, in 1983.
Other musicians Chen has performed and recorded with include Rod Stewart (playing on "Hot Legs" (as well as being in the video), "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" and "Young Turks"), Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, Desmond Dekker, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Jackson Browne, Dave Edmunds, and Linda Lewis (on "Rock-a-Doodle-Doo"), among others.

RIP Janice Long, - Celebrated Greatest Hits and BBC Radio DJ dies aged 66 OBITJeanette and I often used to listen to her Radio 2 show. I even won an on-air contest with a CD as the prize, and after a nice little chat with her I " conned" her into sending me the 4CD Eagles box set that had just been released.

RIP Archbishop Desmond Tutu. A man whose beliefs in God, and righteousness, in equal measure, proved that both can be used in the service of humanity. OBITSomething you probably won't read in many of today's obituaries is that The Arch was one of the earliest and most prominent voices speaking out publicly on the subject of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians, calling it out as " apartheid," something he was supremely qualified to recognise.

Was sad to read that this morning. I met him at the Bristol show about 3 years ago and we chatted about the Podiums he was making for my Ushers. A talented man and leaves behind a legacy of great products.

RIP Burke Shelley, bassist and singer in Budgie Oh that's very sad, one of my favourite rock bands, my favourite album of theirs has always been Bandolier, has some classic songs and riffs, gets played at least once a year. He had a great voice and was a superb bass player, RIP.
