Shapovalov (can spell his name now..), has been fined $7000 dollars. Not heard about any ban possibility. It might be confined to just the ITF who govern the slams and Davis cup or perhaps the ATP will get involved. That could seriously curtail his earning potential. This year. He's not made $7K yet this year btw. No new news on the umps eye.

Great match been young Zverev and Tsonga. The former nicking it in 3 sets in from of Tsonga's French home crowd.
Me, my arm/elbiw has been generally been good. Been playing lots of competitive mixed and men's doubles inter club in decent divisions. I had a training session using a racquet I couldn't use before. A tighter 18 main string x 20 cross string pattern. Less spin more control. I have now restrung it in arm friendly natural gut. Today I bought the same frame as my current main racquet (Prince EXO3 tour 100 but in 18x20 format instead of 16x18. Can't wait to string it up and hit with it...

I never got to grips with how Murray was out of the Aussie Open. Which is the next grand slam event?

French open. Murray struggled with burn out, a fast court and an opponent who it suited / was totally on it. Murray had no answers and looked rather lost. It happens to the best of them. Djok and Murray going out (two of the most boring baseliners in the business) was the best thing that could have happened there imho.
We got a Fedal final. AWESOME Hence the tennis won comment.

Umpire hit in the eye update:
The ITF has issued a statement regarding chair umpire Arnaud Gabas after he underwent surgery in France.
Chair umpire Arnaud Gabas has undergone successful surgery in France to repair a fracture of the orbital bone under his left eye.
The fracture was detected when doctors performed X-rays upon Mr Gabas’s return from Ottawa, where he was unintentionally hit by a ball during the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group tie between Canada and Great Britain on 5 February.
Mr Gabas is now back at his home and is in good spirits. His doctors have recommended that he undertake a period of rest and recovery.
Mr Gabas said: "I would like to thank my doctors for their excellent support. The surgery was successful and I am now concentrating on rest and rehabilitation so I can be back on court in the near future. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude for all the messages of support I have received from around the world.’’
Mr Gabas requests privacy and will not be giving further statements at this time.
Tennis balls at 90 mph are dangerous things!
Fine of $7000 for Shapovalov stands.
I expect the ITF or perhaps their insurance are covering costs.

Didn't Murray do well? That was one hell of a tie break.

Yes, very long one. Kohlshcriber should on paper not be so difficult for Murray but he always gives a good game. He faded in the third, a broken man. Djokovic losing to Kyrgios was another good match over in Acapulco. The latter served superbly. Blew Djok away. He's one of the best returners on the tour of course.. That's Federer, Nadal and now Djokovic who have all been beaten by Kyrgios on their first meeting! Not so Murray. He's 5-0 up against Kyrgios in head to head. Kyrgios then played Querrey. Another close match. Querrey took that one two sets to one. Querrey played much better than usual, esp on the pressure points. He'll face Nadal now in the final.
Murray dispatched Lucas Pouille of France reasonable easily after a close first set. Murray plays Tabasco Verdasco in the final in Dubai.

I seem to remember that Verdasco is a pretty tough opponent.

He can be esp on clay. Murray dispatched him too.
So Murray's real rival for no.1 spot Djokovic lost in the quarters in Acapulco. Murray won his final - 500 pts in the bag in Dubai. Nadal lost in his final in Acapulco to Sam Querrey, who played out of his skin all tournament - straight sets win. Massive hitting, blew Nadal away! Federer was out fairly early as was Warwrinka. What this all means is Murray strengthened his points lead as world number one. Now over 2000pts clear.
Unless Djok wins the upcoming Indian Wells and Miami finals 1000's, he'll drop further behind as he's defending wins and 2000pts points there.
Murray needs to do okay at those go deep at the French and Wimbledon (all slams are 2500pts each) to build up a buffer for his big defending of points later in the year. After the US open, it was the spurt that took him to no.1.
Fun and games ahead.
Tennis can change so quickly though.
If Fed or Nadal bagged both French and Wimbledon, with Murray and Djok not doing much they'd be right up there. That's a big ask though!

Indian Wells is the in full swing. It's an ATP 1000. Arguably the next biggest tournament after the 4 grandslams.. I'm catching up on Evans v Brown ( or Dreddy as he is known). He's known as giving the others a chance on account of his having about 10lbs of dreadlocks slowing him down. Evans won the first set, like a hot knife through butter. Murray plays evening time mid west time today. I'll catch that one tomorrow. Some interesting big names playing doubles, and that is rare. Nadal playing with Tomic? WTF! Murray playing with Evans. Djokovic playing with a fellow veteran doubles playing Serb. The Zverev brothers playing together, that one was a full crowd. Fed not playing doubles though It's nice to see more big names in the doubles. Be nice if the big four, Fed, Nad, Djok and Muzz all retired from singles and played some doubles come the time..

Murray out to Pospisil. Didn't serve well enough.
Wawrinka through. Didn't play that well, but did enough for his first match. I'm enjoying watching Kyrgrios/Zimmervic vs the Bryan bothers. Kyr/Zim are up a set. The good singles players playing doubles continues.

Federer vs Nadal at Indian Wells. Fed wins in straight sets. Some games were close but Fed was unstoppable. Taking the ball early, great forehands and massive one handed backhands. He dominated.
Djokovic got past Delpo in 3 sets. He knew how to hurt Delpo's now weakened backhand (several wrist surgeries').
Kyrgios beat younger Zverev and then went onto best Djokovic.. I'm watching that now to see just how he did it. Kyrgios will now face Fed..

Roger Federer wins his 3rd final this year. Each one against Raffa Nadal! Aus open, Indian Wells 1000, Miami 1000! What an achievement after last years injury and comeback. No one could have predicted this.
He's still 14-23 against Raffa overall H2H, but at his rate...

French Open, 2nd Grand slam of the year started today. I'm just catching up on Petra Kvitova's first match back after her knife attack injury (defending herself from an intruder who got into her Czech apartment on the pretence of being the gas man). He didn't know who she was at first. She suffered severed tendons in her left playing hand overpowering the guy, who had the knife at her throat at one point.
Don't mess with a 6'+ 70kgs sports woman! After a 4 hour surgery (prognosis wasn't great at that point), and much physio, she's worked very hard to get back to playing strength & health. I've been following her progress and rooting for her. She's one of the nicer personalities in the WTA. Two time Wimbledon champ of course. She's up at the moment against Danish American Boserup ranked 85 in the world.
