The Belden RG-8U has arrived, and has been fitted. I like it so far. Much cheaper than the chord, and probably the same base cable.

Yes. I have just tried some on the 2 week trial system. It didn't work well in my system, but Graham has mentioned pion his Forum that he is thinking of doing a larger cross sectional area version for system that require higher power. mmm......what did do wrong/right. I know its system/ears/room/music dependent but just out of interest your experience would be valuable.

The only thing they did wrong in my system etc. was that the bass was a bit lean. Detail, drive, tonal balance and sound stage were superb. If you join the GSP forum, you can borrow some for two weeks (for the cost of the postage both ways) from the loan scheme.

Having spoken to Graham, he thinks that it may be an impedance mis-match with my speakers. Most other people I have seen on the forums using these cables, have nothing but praise for them.

Ok, so the Belden RG-8U is doing the business.
If you look closely, you can see several similarities.

My cable is almost finished, but I have a couple off questions. Is there a big difference in quality of Z plugs? If so, can anybody recommend a good quality version that won't break the bank. I also need some spade connectors for the jumpers. Again, a recommendation for good quality ones please?

I don't know which version of Z-Plug TQ uses, but they're very good.

I like the Talk z plugs - they feel solid and provide a secure connection... £6.95 a pair here - pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=151111805241&alt=web

I was just about to link to those . The only priblem is that the inner core on the Belden cable is so thick that the securing screws don't go in very far and so the outer metal casing can't be fitted . Excellent plugs thogh .

So, if I soldered them in place, there would be no issue

Should be fine, as long as your soldering is better than mine !

I would solder them. Too much cable weight pulling on them.

Just be careful what you buy as lesser banana plugs have been known to snap in the middle on the non- soldered part. I have just plugged this cable into my system and initial impressions are excellent . Bigger soundstage , better bass and more detail. I'll post my findings in a few days when they've settled in .

Mike, didn't Steve get hold of some Z-Plugs for your Exposure cables? Do you know where he sourced them from?

I used the triple braided cat5 DIY cable with my trusty project/diy built kt88 push pull amp. That had a beast of a power transformer and very nice Lundahl output transformers. Driving 15" Tannoys. Never had any problems. The U-byte 2 recipe dual coax satellite cable concoction sounded better on the same kit. But yes only use on suitable amps.
