I'd started walking, and then got an elbow infection that had had my right arm twice its normal size. Antibiotics have returned it to normal. Daily walks, starting at 5km. Will start weights three times a week. Nothing too heavy. And Pilates on the off days. What I eat? Intermittent fasting. With a reasonable amount. Today started a trial of breakfast around midday of bacon, sausages and eggs. A fruit smoothie around 3pm. And dinner around 6pm. See how that goes for a couple of weeks. I had an elbow infection once Weird or what ! Stretching and exercise are a must but from my recent reading not a weight influencer except short term Intermittent fasting not proven in my book and a few others - and anyway sounds like pain That breakfast sounds er, not so healthy. One of the other weird facts I discovered a year or so ago Bad sleep leads to weight gain

One of the other weird facts I discovered a year or so ago Bad sleep leads to weight gain Doesn't it just?! I think that's been part of an issue with extreme tiredness the last couple of weeks. A bit more stress than usual and I felt lacking in energy and my weight loss stopped dead. Glad to say I've regained my usual happy outlook, I'm sleeping like a log again and starting to lose weight. More music has been part of the solution.

Stretching and exercise are a must but from my recent reading not a weight influencer except short term Intermittent fasting not proven in my book and a few others - and anyway sounds like pain There are many different approaches to intermittent fasting and I used it very successfully in the past for short term weight loss of 8-10kg but now in the position where I simply maintain my weight by 'healthy eating.' I didn't find it difficult as I was committed to lose the weight but I can imagine some people will struggle with it. Examples of intermittent fasting - www.bupa.co.uk/newsroom/ourviews/intermittent-fasting - Alternate day fasting (ADF) is when you fast on alternate days and eat ad libitum on ‘eating’ days. - The 5:2 involves severely reducing your calorie intake on two days of the week (to around 500 to 600 calories) and eating a healthy, balanced diet on the other five days. - 16:8 intermittent fasting involves eating only during an eight-hour window and fasting for the remaining 16 hours. For example, you may eat between 10am and 6pm, then refrain from eating until the next day at 10am again. - Some people do a 24-hour fast, which involves consuming no calories on one day of the week or month. As yet research has not yet fully determined whether it is safe over the long-term so think in weeks, not many months. Anyone can find a contrary opinion about anything but the overwhelming advice you will see is that it is safe and beneficial for *most* people which is why you should always check in with your doctor first.

When I read
"research has not yet fully determined whether it is safe over the long-term " That put me right off
Fortunately I don't need it for weight loss anyway Was interested in some of the reported beneficial effects

I had a new exercise from my physio where I have to stand on one leg and then slowly lower myself down to the height of the arm of a sofa, just using the muscle from the standing leg, hands on hips. Initially found it really difficult with my leg starting to wobble a lot but after a couple of weeks my strength and balance is much improved.

Is your physiotherapist Russian by any chance? If they suggest you increase the speed and swap legs and then add a kick I'd get very suspicious!

Try the below. Eyes open, then eyes closed. Eyes open - easy. Eyes closed - not so easy. My balance has been awful for years, it was the thing holding me back from difficult yoga positions like the tree and the eagle.

Try doing the eyes open one with your arms crossed. Do it for longer. Your calf muscles will complain a bit.
Try eyes open while brushing your teeth too.
They are sort of gateways to doing it eyes closed.
It's important to get set right for the eyes closed, the brain is amazing and will learn if you train it.
Eyes closed brushing your teeth is a real challenge.
I'm not sure anyone can do eyes closed indefinitely. Perhaps the yoga balance people?
Even at 22 I barely passed the Swedish test because I wasn't ready for it, didn't set right! Have dabbled with this ever since then but didn't realise it could be an indicator as suggested.
It makes sense, both my parents started having random falls as they got older. Particularly my always nimble mother.
It was as if one part of the brain didn't keep up with the other. The conscious need to be somewhere or do something quickly outstripped their subconscious balance. Have a turn on level ground is one thing, have it at the top of the stairs,, quite another!
Breaking hips and even worse the pelvis is a real accelerator to death as you age. I suppose that is a physical reason for early death of people who struggle. The other is mental health of course.
Most monkeys die falling out of trees, gravity will out eventually.

I've been walking for 10 weeks.
Used to hate walking as an activity. Couldn't see the point, when you can run.
Enjoying it immensely. Look forward to the next day so I can get out the door.

Found out recently that good balance helps you live longer Must be linked to our tree dwelling ancestors / past. Less likely to fall and die of fractured / broken bones 😱🙂 I recently saw this on Instagram Flexi😂 Being of the skinflinty type, with a workshop full of offcuts, I thought, "I could make one of those in 10mins"! The result Basic laminated shape. A little adjustment Easiest setting to start with.. My older, much longer and less flexible male back can't manage more yet! Those ads all show super fit, flexible, 20 something females - cat like flexibility! 😂 I've been doing 2x twice a day for about a week. Definitely releases things. My back did crack a bit the first time! Not so much since then! Just feels nice and stretched now. Incorporated into my Djokovic like stretch routines..🙂

Not at all keen stretching my back that extreme in that position I'll stick with cat stretches Yeah, start easy and build up / start young😂 It definitely does a lot more than a cat stretch!
