All this castle stuff is all very well but wots this about an offer on a house. No castle view? ? Yeah Just sat down to do the numbers properly, and finally addressed the fact there is no way round the French social charges which are eye wateringly crippling, and may well scupper the whole deal. UK 9% on profits between 7500 and 44000 and 2% over that. France 47% flat on the lot. Stunning. Nobody is going to move their to work. We'll have to pay our taxes in england, and then retire there to take advantage of the health care. Utter lunacy. They know it, but are powerless to change it because it only encourages the cobble stone throwers VERY DEPRESSED!!!

I suppose we were lucky that we had nothing to sell in the UK when we moved here. The social charges here are not too bad really but in addition to everything else I can see why you would hesitate. Early retirement? PS We enrolled on the Auto entrepreneur scheme but then we didn't intend to declare very much income. You two would have to accept the higher rates of course.

You can still pay UK tax as long as you are resident in the UK for more than 50% of the year.

There was a Channel4 program a wee while back when they built a trebuchet near Loch Ness. Great fun!
Lovely looking place - I'm pretty sure I've read about some of this when I was reading about Roslin Chapel. Think there's a tie in there somewhere but just can't remember.
