Best sausages I ever tasted bought at the sausage stall there. Also, however kitsch, loved the monkey sanctuary

Great memories Losenotaminute of when we were in Edinburgh for the millennium. Have some friends there that we haven't seen in along time.

Corfe Castle is a brilliant place. it must have been a bugger to attack as it looks so well defended.

........it must have been a bugger to attack as it looks so well defended. Of course, having someone like Jon Cleese standing on the ramparts saying things like "Your muzzeeer is a hamster and your fazzer smells of elderberries" would have made it a bit tricky too!

Of course you could always have dressed up in the home teams colours resulting in you being let in by the lady of the house thus enabling you to raze it to the ground, which if IIRC is how Corfe castle ended up in the state it is in today

The Triangular Lodge - Not a castle but a folly and only a fifteen minute drive from here...
Rockingham Castle - A ten minute walk away and more a heavily fortified manor house
And finally...
Rochester Castle - A regular sight for me in my formative years

Slightly different view of the Castle this time taken from the Grassmarket. Never ceases to amaze me this is still a serving garrison. There are also tunnels which run under the castle.

Cooling Castle (main gate) - Castles fascinated me as a kid (still do) and there were many to see in our area
Leeds Castle (Kent) - The most beautiful castle I've visited

Yes, Leeds castle is well worth a visit. Went there this Easter whilst holidaying in Kent. Also did Dover castle and all the tunnels.
I can't think of Castles without remembering the class of GWR steam locomotives that were predominantly named after castles.

Leeds castle is on our doorstep (about 5 miles away). They have a fantastic open air all day classical music concert picnic there every year. Last year it had the most amazing choreographed fly pasts of a spitfire and hurricane in perfect time with the music

When we went to Leeds castle this Easter, there were road close signs at every turning, and we must have done a 20 mile detour, some along the narrowest roads you could imagine and I was in my LWB van.(which I use for towing the caravan)
When we came out we took a chance, and found the road was only closed the other side of the castle entrance.
