Just very occasionally I will watch a film knowing it is most likely going to be pants. The Shallows is a case in point. The plot is not too burdensome - shark terrorises surfer girl trapped in the ocean; that's all you need to know. It's not really badly made and there's some nice enough photography. Blake Lively does her best with wrestling the shark and the screenplay, but as the credits role you ask yourself why on earth did the world need another shark film? Somehow, the film was a huge box office success. #instantly forgettable.

Ouch.
I felt differently only because of how vicious that shark was. This one made the one from Jaws look like a kindergartener.

Great idea for a thread Jules
We watched Greenland last night.
Formulaic, Gerard Butler is his normal so so self. Too many plot holes and even more when you think back on it. Avoid

I'm reminded of the horror that was John Wick 3. What an utter piece of crap with no redeeming features. Why ever I decided to waste my time and money is now a mystery to me.

Ha, that's funny Mike, I actually enjoyed Greenland! Cliche after cliche for me Seen it all before in disaster films and others Not keen on him as an actor anyway Fodder for the boss and fills the time. Far rather listen to music than watch this and similar

It's actually on my list Martin as I enjoyed the first two - I don't have high expectations of it but want to see it pan out.

From what I've heard John Wick 3 is very many steps below unremarkable !

I have to admit all of the films mentioned in this thread would have me cowering in the corner bathed in sweat and wide eyed with fear! As for any Gerard Butler film . . . . well, I'll leave you guys to it at this point, far too rich for my blood

Far rather listen to music than watch this and similar For some reason Mike I had really looked forward to this one and had a nice fat juicy sit down on a Saturday morning to watch this. Bummer. It was a conveyor belt of cliches. What bothered me most though was the lead actress playing the mother, she never stopped screeching. She was wailing or losing her crap in every scene. That must have been exhausting for her to film. I've liked plenty of Gerard Butler films I thought he had some charm but in this one they could have cast almost anybody for that role.

Unfortunately Mike I think it'd be more fair to say that I was just duped by the trailer.

There is some right rubbish on Amazon Prime I always check the star rating, IMDB rating and when it was made High ratings are no guarantee of being much good unforch. Many could be made to be so much better. Occasionally we click on one that might be 'ok' but is very good Glad to say the boss is in agreement on many now that we just leave as a waste of space I will be watching far less when the boss is able to visit the grand daughters and, surprise, listening to music

I rarely found anything I liked, but when I did it was always a rental. As I don't do drama series, I didn't' have Prime long. I've binned Netflix now too, only have BFI and MUBI - very happy with those, manage a great film every night, sometimes two - but I reckon they would mostly have you guys cowering in the corner with fright thinking WTF is this nonsense! Neither of them show many mainstream films and no drama series, just films.

Back to unremarkable films I seen plenty and have a few guilty pleasures that you can watch on YouTube For instance I know it pants but I love old Chinese martial arts movies like Snake on the Monkeys Shadow and Duel of the 7 tigers. I seen a few poor films on Netflix which thankfully escape my memory Good fun thread Jules

Gosh I haven’t seen an early martial arts film for a long time John, but certainly used to love the Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan films.

Anything with a car chase in it. Immediate roll eyes and loss of attention.

The Dead Don't Die
Im not sure which film thread this sub-par zombie flick belongs in. I watch it semi frequently for the background score and narration of Tom Waits.
But the dialogue and acting is bizarrely bad and the plot is like a C minus....with an all star cast.
Bill Murray Adam Driver Steve Buscemi Danny Glover Tilda Swinton Chloe Sevigny Caleb Lands Jones RZA Iggy Pop Tom Waits Selena Gomez
A cast like this and the film felt like a B movie you might find near the very botton of any bargain bin. Though the score has me enthralled at times.

That's actually watchable in a car crash kind of way. Some of that score was written by Sturgill Simpson (big fan here) who's in the movie briefly and there's a scene where a girl buys his CD.
If you go in not expecting a horror, but a tongue in cheek romp, I think it's reasonably entertaining. Great score as you say, but that's my kind of music, so others might not be so enthralled. I'd give it 6.5 or 7 out of 10
You definitely shouldn't treat it at all seriously, which accounts IMO for it's poor reviews. It's a black comedy rather than a zombie film, I think a lot missed that fact.
