First read about Biome in The New Scientist a few months back and was intrigued, could be good.
Tim Spector, Professor at King's College is the most well known enthusiast for this and I took a step towards being a believer after hearing him
Making a few changes at the same time I find myself feeling good and losing weight.
Twas a good coincidence to drop non vegan food, mostly because of the added sugar I think so it could be that. I've added a few items I wasn't keen on in small amounts to my diet. Increases the mix Overall I'm eating more (!) Seem to have more energy.
Worth a punt
Here's one on Tim's many YouTube vids
He also has a book
The Diet Myth - The Real Science Behind What We Eat Tim Spector

Could be the additional good food I have added to my diet and biome. I'm feeling good. So much of the food added has been using up leftovers from the boss or from when the kids visit. If I didn't eat it then it went in the bin Recently added sweet potatoes - I like them !
The other additions over a few years Blueberries Raspberries Strawberries Bananas Courgettes Onions Spinach
... at least
Carrots and peas added by choice
Tim Spector said somewhere we should have 30 different foods a week I'm at least knocking on the door of that
Worth everyone trying for sure
Also helps I have at last found the ideal bread making process. Might knock shop bread out completely Allinson's Country Grain Bread Flour the final ingredient

+1 on the Allinsons.
Courgettes, which you merntion above, are one of my "go to" meat substitutes in a veggie stir fry. I love spinach with a dash of vinegar on it.

My diet in my 20s and 30s was rubbish. Must have caused me some problems The good thing about good food and ingredients is they can be enjoyable Obviously not Cauliflower or Brussel Sprouts

About 2 years ago I started to see the physical side effects of bad diet.
My body took care of me and itself for 30 years while I treated it terribly, now it's my time to return the favor.
I dont eat what I like anymore, except on slip ups, I eat for survival.
Fish and chicken only for dinners. No more wheat. Cut down drastically on sugar. Fried foods at an absolute minimum.
Celery, lemon, carrots, matcha green tea. Each of these are miracle drugs for their individual properties.
Even if I don't like them or don't want them, just get them into the body, just get it over with and continue the meal.

Seems logical to eat food that does you good. Anything that you don't like much can be a small portion unless very strong taste
I now find eating items with even a small amount sugar makes me hungry, certainly makes me want to eat more. Sometimes makes me feel queasy
The biome thing is not 100% proven to me, yet. Seems to be doing me good though

Think I'm mostly there now but open to all sorts of other new stuff.
My skin is less than perfect. Improved a huge amount years back when I started drinking a few pints of water a day, cut headaches out too. Still not perfect skin so I Googled Carrots and walnuts good for skin. Ok, up the carrots and walnuts that I already eat. Can't hurt, could help My skin seems just that bit better.
I shall be googling all sorts and giving any safe food a go.
Eating well, enjoying the food, weight very nicely under control
Biome improves I guess and the specific problem might too
The boss is happy upping her biome too and considering her health problems and very heavy last few weeks is doing incredibly well. Improved Biome ? Dunno. Could well be

In terms of healthy skin, I've been using a marine supplement with my other vitamins for a while.
I was cooking salmon tonight - my wife won't eat the skin but it has an amazing range of healthy things in it -
protein / omega-3 fatty acids / vitamin D vitamin E / iodine / selenium / taurine
The one 'superfood' I have every day is blueberries. Mainly because I love them, but thankfully they have incredible nutrients with big RDI doses of -
Fiber / Vitamin C / Vitamin K / Manganese
Amazing!
"According to a few studies, a bowl of blueberries can help in boosting immunity and can reduce the risk of diabetes, obesity and heart diseases. Moreover, consuming a small portion of berries daily can help in strengthening the metabolism and prevent any kind of metabolic syndrome and deficiency."

Apparently Kiwi also helps in controlling blood sugar levels and actually helps control diabetes.

I'm doing that now Mike.
Also big reduction in carbs and nearly zero added sugars.

Improving my biome could have made me the healthiest I have ever been, certainly in adult life. Nice surprise for an old geezer.
Not 100% guaranteed to be all down to biome but a big part. Went fully vegan which accidentally knocked out three items with sugar. Losing manufactured and added sugar is a big part of looking after your biome. Added more fruit, nuts, seeds and veg and looking to add more Fermented is cautiously next. The idea of something like sauerkraut ...... I'll tip toe into it with tiny amounts like I did with carrots.
Cons ? My body is not happy with sweets, cake, biscuits, chocolate etc. Tastes great when I eat but an hour or so later I don't feel good. No problem for me and I think everyone could get used to it
Weight seems to have stabilised in the mid 11 stone area even without the bike riding. (Bit cold on the bike currently)
Would I go back to a limited, normal diet No chance

I'm actually eating a reasonable amount of sauerkraut as it can help fill me up without much carbs or calories - a magic food for this!
I'm being careful not to overdo it on the fruit as certain ones have too much sugars. I'm going to add nuts into the diet once I get my Nutribullet up and running.
Am eating more fish - wild salmon has lots of good stuff in it. Cut down on meat of course.
Next trick will be to stabilise weight by going to a 5:2 diet after this current fasting diet. Five days of highly controlled eating with no sugar or alcohol. The weekend will allow for a couple of treats and maybe a takeaway.

I do like a dollop on my hotdogs. Joking aside though, it either seems to come in catering-size jars (well, that's how they look to someone like me who lives alone) or as " daft" boutique products laced with herbs etc. Fish yes! Fish good! I love my smoked (and fresh) salmon, and Sainsbury's do very nice Taste The difference Beer Battered Cod Fillets too. The Young's "Gastro" fish is also pretty good, and there's always the old standby which I haven't had for years, but I may just have to investigate the fish finger sandwich. Scampi in the air-fryer also goes in my "healthy" column, but as with virtually everything above, the salt content can be fairly astronomical, and it's not always the least expensive products that have the most salt.

That's the same sauerkraut I've been buying from Sainsbury's, Jules. For the amount I eat it's way too big for me, and I end up throwing loads of it away. They sell a 400g jar with dill and garlic for £4.50 which I tried, and wasn't keen on. They also stock a Polish "Sauerkraut With Carrot," but that's in an even bigger 900g jar. I may investigate Amazon at some stage, but it's not urgent for me.

Sauerkraut is one of the fermented 'family'
Not seen guides to amounts of any food so a small amount of various nuts, fruit and other can be added
Normal meal sizes have changed for me too. Having around 20% less as they became too much to eat as they were

I rather like it,less bitter tasting than the other one and having live culture in it, is much healthier. Downside is it's more expensive of course and I will be getting through it fairly quickly, whereas the big jar lasts a fair while. Would still like to try some others.
