Well done. I was periodically getting drop outs in the sound when streaming files from my tablet. I turned off the WiFi and that cured it. No idea why.

Well done. I was periodically getting drop outs in the sound when streaming files from my tablet. I turned off the WiFi and that cured it. No idea why. BT uses 2.4GHz as does WiFi (5GHz too). They can interfere with each other with the weaker signal losing out.. usually that's BT. Good call John on the aerial. I had started looking for one.

For my BT5 DAC I'm going a stage further...higher gain aerial as well as a 1m extension cable. The DAC is a bit buried under a TV so I want to move the aerial to a better location.

I've just got a Teclast tablet that will hopefully take care of BT5 duties when required. I remember Martin saying they're pretty decent.
Spec is excellent for a budget tab - until the system is back I'll enjoy the 1920x1200 IPS display for webtainment.

I bought the aerial, but its huge, about 10" long. I tried it quickly but am not sure the connection to the DAC is good as I got a lot of dropouts. I'll fiddle around at the weekend.

I got a couple of the things two. I find both the aerial and my phone dropout if I move them. If I don't touch them they are fine. BT seems very sensitive. 10 inches? You've got a small one! Mines's 15 inches.

If your phone or tablet has Dolby Atmos should already be installed try turning it on and see what you get. This should work with whatever format you are using On my system now a few steps beyond my old Limetree in terms of sound quality which is just bonkers considering how much this costs

You don't need an app, it's built into Android.

I know but prefer as often this does not function for me so prefer the app route Getting the timing on the button presses can be tricky. Conversely, my picture gallery is littered with unintended screen shots... I already had Dolby Atmos switched on. Bluetooth is certainly excellent and I suspect surpassing USB and my new PI2AES via AES or IIS. I am guessing BT itself is not intrinsically fantastic, its just by-passing my Wifi, NAS, router, switch cables etc. in my network.

John: " I am guessing BT itself is not intrinsically fantastic, its just by-passing my Wifi, NAS, router, switch cables etc. in my network. "
Yup, I tend to agree. A holistic view is needed when I compare my own USB setup with Bluetooth.... different WiFi interfaces, laptop noise, 7m USB cable and interfaces, cable interfaces at my reclocker and USB converter. All of those are avoided with Bluetooth.
Balance that against the inherent compression of Bluetooth, the receiver cable interfaces and..... well, I have no idea which one is technically superior!
My Bluetooth setup certainly sounds excellent to my ears.

It still suprises me something so cheap can sound good. Perhaps it the lost of cables or that a simpler circuit or combination of factors.

Having used BT5 for a longer period now the short and simple version of my conclusion is the Limetree gives a cleaner version of music (could be edgy on some systems) whereas BT5 gives a smoother version. With the speakers I have I can listen to either with comfort. Those with unforgiving or very forgiving speakers may prefer BT5 or Limetree respectively.
As John says, it's incredible that such an inexpensive solution (BT5) works so very well.
