Lack of bass again. That's interesting. I can't say I've noticed that in my Bluetooth setup.
I guess it might be a little leaner and tauter, but not much in it at all. Bass sounds extremely good, but then I'm not really into bassy or bass-led music.

Streaming FLAC from my Samsung Tablet at 96 Khz using BlackPlayer is not as good as streaming Radio Paradise FLAC from the tablet or my phone. Neither are as good as via USB from my Asus Tinkerboard. Loss of bass is the main difference, echoing Clive's finding. But, for "casual" listening, RP over BT is perfectly fine. Playing with bit rate in developer options can have a impact in sound quality IF LDAC YouTube 88.2/24 Best audio Spotify 44.1/16 Best audio Like Jerry I am not getting bass loss Please try and report back as it might also help. Be interesting to see if you can improve sound quality.

Putting the bass loss I experienced into perspective...my 4 x 15 inch active bass drivers are driven by powerful amps with their own volume controls with detents. To compensate for the drop off I needed to move the volume knobs by 1 detent, the minimum increase possible which at the same time makes a noticeable difference.

I wonder if the BT5 receiver needs more burn in time to open up? These devices are quite cheap some BT5 receiver rolling my prove interesting! What entry level tablet do you all recommend, thanks for the great thread.

Hi all, again, I'm following this with interest.
Would anyone like to recommend a good BT5 receiver but without a built-in DAC?
I have a 'spare' USB input on my Beresford DAC - but probably I won't get a BT receiver with USB .
My dilemma: 1. Buy a BT5 receiver and hook it up to my present system. 2. Buy a Gustard x16 with built in BT; sell the Beresford 3. Buy the new Cambridge M200 DAC when it come out later this month - and sell the Beresford. 4. Buy the iFi Zen. 5. Leave things as they are - the Apple airplay seems to be working OK at present - for background music.
Any advice?
Thanks,

I'm afraid that the BT5 receiver that myself and Clive bought is no longer available on AliExpress and I couldn't find an alternative but there may be one with further investigation.
The Gustard looks great value to me but I'm wondering if it's better to have a separate BT receiver that can be cheaply replaced as standards and codecs change.
I don't think the iFi Zen would be much if any of an upgrade for you. Personally I have always found their products to be way over hyped in the press.

I see it’s not available...I got my 2nd one just in time. I expect there are others. re iFi, a lot of their innovative early designs came from one designer...he’s since departed having set up a recording studio.

Be interesting to see if you can improve sound quality. I have had a play around with this on my Samsung S10+ and A6 Tablet. It definitely sounds much better when set to 44.1 for Radio Paradise, Spotify and 44.1 files. However, if it its a 96K file it then stays at 96K. The tablet sounds very good (faster SD Card?) and better than the phone, although BT version etc. are the same. I have to reset the setting on the tablet/phone each time I connect to the DAC, which is annoying.

Yes agree about having to reset it as it defaults back each time Also do try balanced audio in Developer Options this also takes it up another notch

I forgot to mention that I used the Optimum Audio Quality setting, but that's where my phone struggled. The tablet was fine, though, better than files streamed from LMS on my NAS, probably because it avoids a WiFi hop and then USB through my ATB, reclocker etc., just file-player-BT-DAC

A short video going through the settings with LDAC I would suggest you find what works for your set up as might be different to my experience
