I have been chatting with Vic about Bluetooth. It seems sound quality can vary greatly depending on your phone/tablet For instance Google pixel sounds awful. My Samsung A52 and A7 tablet sound good, so for those who have had issues with BT, it could be the phone or tablet you are using.
I know this will put people off, but for me, I love the ease of use. I guess I was lucky with my choice on phone and Tablet

That's also my experience. My Samsung S10 was poor and would also drop out, but my S20 Plus is very good as is my Samsung A6 lite tablet.

I wonder what makes one tablet sound better than another?

Technology ! Maybe even variability between the same model

Indeed.
My point being that until someone works out exactly what makes the difference, it's a lottery when buying a tablet or phone for BT use. Mine was pants for audio but I have other uses for it thankfully.

Great.
How do you like the phone?
I'm using an old Umidigi - it's been a great phone, only let down by software updates being halted about a couple of weeks after buying, which wasn't impressive.

My new Sennheiser Momentum 3 wireless headphones support different Bluetooth codecs (not LDAC) but my phone keeps defaulting to AAC when I try to change the codec in developer settings. Very frustrating. Have tried everything I can think of including unpairing and pairing again. Any suggestions?

I tried to connect some fairly old Jabra Elite 75t’s to my wife’s iPhone 13 and it wouldn’t recognise them. Could this be die to different Bluetooth standards?

I've now tried the Sennheisers with two phones and a tablet with the same result - cannot change from AAC to aptX. Waiting to see if Sennheiser can shed any light on this. Hoping I don't have to open an eBay return ...

So, correct me if I'm wrong the sequence of events goes something like:
Unpair the headphones
Enable Developer options
Select Bluetooth Audio Codec option from within Settings --> Developer Options
Select your choice of non default codec and return to previous screen, it should show that codec as selected
Return to root Settings screen then enter developer options menu then look for Bluetooth Audio Codec - Use System Selection (Default - your new Codec) is now selected.
When you connect/pair your headphones the phone reverts to AAC.
Is that about right?

That's good for Android phones, Paul. I believe Jules has an Apple I thought he had a Xiaomi Poco M5S??? Correct young Paul! So my old tablet, my current Poco and my old Umidigi phone "only" do AAC, they will not let me use anything else with these cans. Last role of the dice, I try my son's older but more expensive Poco X3 phone and it works like a charm first time, showing the aptX codec as automatically chosen in developer options. According to Sennheiser support that is how it should work, you shouldn't have to set it yourself if your source has the capability. So it seems my "cheap" Poco phone is the culprit, LOL! At least I know the cans are working correctly.
