Is that the IMAX near Waterloo?
And don't wait for me Robert if you want to talk about spoilers and the bonkers end to Romulus, I'm definitely not going to see it.

Sorry, Tim. I'm not convinced that you won't see it. I meant to say PAY to see it.

I think I've mentioned before I've always wanted to go there . . . . one day, largest screen in the UK as I understand? Definitely won't be seeing Romulus though, spoke to the film scheduler at my cinema this morning, who as I suspected said they won't be showing it there. However, she did say they're showing Aliens over Halloween. Be great so see that in a cinema again, so that's made me smile

Do they have 70mm projection, Tim? I saw 2001 in 70mm and it was a stunning presentation. The only time I have witnessed a standing ovation at the end of a film.

I was toying with trying to see Dune 2 there, I think there were only about a dozen places in the UK you could see Dune 2 in 70mm. Jules might know better than me though.
Actually just checked, that's wrong . . . IMAX Waterloo was apparently the only place in Europe you could have seen Dune 2 in 70mm
EDIT: Just re-read your post and you might have been asking if they had 70mm at the cinema I volunteer at rather than Waterloo . . . if so, no they don't. They only have digital and 35mm projectors - I always make an effort to see the 35mm screenings, whatever the film. They showed Psycho recently in 35mm which was fantastic. Never seen that in a theatre before, let alone in 35mm - you could have heard a pin drop.

The BFI IMAX can show both digital and film formats - 35mm / 70mm / IMAX etc. I saw Lawrence of Arabia there in 70mm and it was utterly mind-blowing.
Alien Romulus was a digital projection of a 4K file.
Of course it's actually quite rare to see a film on an IMAX screen which is actually shot in entirety on IMAX film and this is where punters often get confused and deliberately misled by film marketeers. IMAX stock and cameras are obscenely expensive to shoot with which is why it's extremely rare to see a movie shot in this format.

Never seen anything in 70mm, would love to though - my local Odeon IMAX isn't that brilliant, I think the Cineworld SuperScreen is far superior on every level, better seats, better screen with dual 4K projectors, but where it really kicks the IMAX is the sound, it's bone crushingly good in there. It's unfortunate there aren't that many films I fancy seeing in the SuperScreen, as it's a great room for cinema. I saw Blade Runner 2049 7 times in that room!

When I watched BR 2049 a few nights ago, on our TV and AV system, the soundtrack was superb and much less distorted than when I had seen it in the Bristol Vue with my son.

I saw Dune 2 on the Cineworld Superscreen in Manchester and it was absolutely immense! Our local cinema complex is a Vue which is ok - the tickets are a fraction of the price compared to some others in the area or downtown.

Sorry, Tim. I'm not convinced that you won't see it. I meant to say PAY to see it. I missed this post Robert . . . nope, never going to happen. There are only two Alien films IMO, I won't be watching 3, Resurrection, Prometheus or Covenant again and going forward I won't be watching any other Alien films, apart from the first two.
As they say on Dragon's Den . . . I'm out

Tim is at the theater 45 times per month. I just think the pressure to see what all the fuss is about will become too great.

Yup, 100% correct Slinger, no really does mean no. I think you underestimate my level of dislike for most of modern Hollywood and Disney Robert, especially Disney. Then there’s Ridley Scott who IMO is past his best, so I’ll be missing Gladiator 2 as well. After that disaster Napoleon and his very offensive responses to criticism from Historians, I’ll take a pass – life's too short and while independent films remain and they actually have something new and original to say, I’ll keep to my lane. I'm not doubting the visual and technical aspects of Romulus, I trust people like Jules and others who've seen it, in that visually and production wise it’s very good. But here’s the thing, when you make a film that breaks the fourth wall with lines like “Get away from her you bitch” you're not just undermining it’s origin, you're admitting you haven't got much yourself and your script is so weak you need to start plundering lines from cultural icons. That’s Ellen Ripley's line . . . forever . . . end of discussion. If I’d have seen that in a theatre I’d have walked out, but I’m fairly sure I would have walked out much sooner. I don’t know whose idea it was, I doubt Fede Alvarez's as I don’t believe he’s that crass, so it was either a studio call or more likely Ridley . . . but it’s unbelievably lame. As for the resurrection of dead actors - I think that’s inappropriate on so many levels, but I’ll leave it there for Romulus. So no, I won’t be seeing anything else from this now long dead franchise (which personally was dead the moment they killed off Newt and Hicks). It’s got nothing to say, nothing original and now Disney owns it, is likely to be little more than regurgitated, fan-bait nonsense. As for Ridley Scott, I still regard him as one of the all-time greats, he made the best Alien film and then there’s Blade Runner – both cinematic giants . . . but he also made what most critics agree (plus me) is the worst Alien film, Alien: Covenant. Nothing lasts forever and for me he’s been off the mark more than he’s hit it of late, so I’d rather remember his high points. I’ll keep an eye on Fede Alvarez though, I think he’s a good director and given a well written original idea, could no doubt make an outstanding film and outstanding films are rare. But hey, each to their own . . . if you enjoy it work away, but it’s not what I want from cinema, not even close and in my world there are still only two Alien films.

<checks when Ridley Scott made The Counselor>
Well, he remained at the top of his game until at least 2013.

I really liked The Martian and despite bombing at the box office, I didn't think The Duel was as bad as a lot made out either, it certainly wasn't terrible, but mostly because of what I thought was a really outstanding performance from Jodie Comer. Interesting story too.

Ok fine Tim you win...this time. But i will be taking issue with one of your points:
Covenant. I have honestly come to believe that for fans of the franchise its a complete let down/useless junk. When I saw it in theaters I didnt even care that it's in the Weyland Yutani universe. By that point I'd given up on Weyland Yutani years prior. I just wanted eye/ear candy. And I've watched it recently.
That medlab scene is a gem of sci-fi horror it's nice and drawn out and along with the sound design during that whole scene my heart was pounding, just a week ago. I believe that new fans experience Prometheus and Covenant and Romulus in a much better way than old fans. On the Weyland Yutani fb page somebody made a post saying they saw the film twice. Once with a die hard WY fan and once with somebody new to the franchise and they LOVED Romulus and want to see all of the WY movies now.
The Martian is one of my favorite films of all time and I have only love for Ridley Scott for his triumphs and ignore his misteps.
And yes, Jodie Comer was electric in The Duel.

I will of course be interested to hear what people think of Gladiator 2, even though I don't plan on seeing it myself?
Oh, forgot to say I'm not quite at the cinema 45 times a month, but that did make me laugh. This week it was the Chinese film Only the River Flows (twice), Béla Tarr's The Turin Horse and on Sunday I'm seeing his 7h 30m epic Sátántangó. That's the longest film I will have seen in one go, although I've been at the cinema for longer, as I saw all three extended Lord of the Rings films back to back, at the premiere of The Return of the King in New Zealand. The Return of the King started at one minute past midnight on release day, so it was quite a long slog!
