I got fed up having to dump everything vaguely related to films and cinema into the "Remarkable Films you've Seen Recently" thread, so I've created this one.

It's old news, apparently, but I didn't realise that James Cameron is making a whopping FOUR sequels to Avatar.
The projected release dates are: December 18 2020 - Avatar: The Way of Water December 17 2021 - Avatar: The Seed Bearer December 20 2024 - Avatar: The Tulkun Rider December 19 2025 - Avatar: The Quest for Eywa

Dune goes into post-production in December, so it's now looking like a 2021 release.

Here's hoping it does the book justice

I have high hopes that Villeneuve will crack it, based on what he did with Blade Runner 2049.

Looks a bit polished , not saying David Lynch's version was great but it had that strange unsettling vibe his films have .

Some of the visuals in Lynch's version were inspired. Pity they never let him finish it properly and rushed the special effects.

Sadly all I can remember about it is Sting.

Has potential but the trailer is way too long and the music that comes in around 2 mins is a very strange choice indeed.

Ah thanks Paul, didn't recognise it as not knowledgeable on Floyd. It has certainly been Zimmer-fied. Not my thing at all.

I think Zimmer's treatment of Eclipse is rather appropriate.

Well I've recently move to new apartment, actually fully furnished basement, and I've acquired access to a massive flat screen TV with all the fixings and all the channels.
Nearly every movie I've seen in the last 5 years has just been on my smartphone so I re-watched a bunch of films and I'm noticing things I hadn't before.
Deepwater Horizon War Of The Worlds
Two of my favorites, these just had me enthralled. It was like seeing them for the first time, which is a treat for me.
I also watched The Joker. Pretty cool. I cant call it a masterpiece because I did have a few eye roll moments especially towards the end but it's hard to deny that Phoenix's performance is powerful it's a potent combination of his look and abilities as an actor and it really puts something onto the screen that isn't on the page. The other thing I do like about the film is the feeling it brings of the look and feel of the 1980's. I remember that time in the US growing up in that time as a child and I'm quite fond of any film that can portray that dirty 1980's look and vibe convincingly.
A Most Violent Year with Jessica chastain and Oscar Isaac had that 80's atmosphere as well I thought.

I don't think I could stand to watch a movie (or a TV show, come to that) on a smartphone, it just wouldn't hold my attention. I'd end up putting the phone down and wandering off. while it was still playing.

I got used it and always had a soundbar connected via Bluetooth and soon didn't notice the crappiness. But now I do after moving up to this huge screen.
One thing I have noticed though....Lovecraft Country. Wow to be able to watch shows from time to time. This is the first tv series I've followed since season 1 of True Detective.

I'm a sucker for some of the original 80's films - bought a Blu-ray of The Lost Boys recently which was always a great favourite and reminds me of times good and bad.
