Have you read this book by Nina Teicholz? It's a very interesting read indeed.

Can anyone recommend some accurate and reliable bathroom scales?
I want some that are capable of giving the same reading more than once, unlike my cheap digital scales from Amazon. I like the idea of digital accuracy but from what I read a lot of them suffer from this problem.

Thanks chaps, yes Salter have always had a good rep. Just for Tim , in a fit of rampant indulgence and exuberant consumerism, would you believe I got a Cyber Monday deal!! Just feel those demonic shopping endorphins kick in ...

Got the new scales today. When I weigh myself tomorrow morning it will be a week since starting the diet. But of course I could not resist trying them today. They are telling me I'm just over 85kg. Now that is good news in itself, but of course I weighed myself on different scales last week, so I cannot be sure exactly how much I have lost. I will weigh myself again tomorrow morning, but the reading in a week's time will be much more enlightening I think. I'm sticking to the diet religiously so far - onwards and upwards, or downwards in terms of weight.

I usually weigh myself every day at the same time due to the variation in me and/or scales

Results are in from the London jury - 85.5kg.
I'm very pleased indeed for a week of dieting!

My older brother is an inspiration to me. He is seriously, unhealthily LARGE. Every time I see him I am inspired to go on a diet. Saw my reflection in a window this morning - wow, slim!! ish. Once I get to my target size I plan to stay there with the occasional fasting day to keep things on the straight and narrow. It's just so damn easy.

Er yes, very lucky to have a metabolism like that - just like my older brother ... Yes, reminds me of one of my sisters friends. She can eat and eat and never puts weight on. Interestingly though, the medical community generally blames weight. But there are lots of people who are thin who contract Cancer and Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes etc. so yes weight is a factor, but I think they concentrate on it too much to be honest. My theory, rightly or wrongly is that you are allocated a certain lot in life, yes there are things you can do to look after yourself but there is no guarantee that those things will work.

It's all about risk, I think. Probabilities, not guarantees.

the occasional fasting day to keep things on the straight and narrow. It's just so damn easy. There was a dietitian / heath guru type on the radio saying that if you don't eat after 8pm then skip breakfast by the time lunch arrives the fasting effect has kicked in and the body has been using up stored fat for a couple of hours .

Whenever I see anyone with really bad posture I straighten up. Good reminder

Anyone checked if their cholesterol has gone down with this kind of dieting?

There quite a few studies Tim would be better to point you in the right direction For me I was getting quite big when I first started this type of diet and lost significant weight I didn't weigh myself first started using my watch strap then belt size to measure I set myself a goal of getting back into shirts I could no longer wear and guess my biggest motivation was not being happy with my excessive weight Other benefits it really helped with back issues, a lot more energy, a better sense of mental awareness and was nice to get people commenting on how well I was looking and wanting to know how I lost so much weight I set myself some new goals that I am now working towards
