Really nice and how is it sounding with the new Podiums? Cheers Matt, it's kind of you to say. Honestly, I'm really surprised that the room can handle speakers this size as well as it does (thank god!) and the podiums are one of those 'no brainers' since being set up properly; it sounds better than it ever has previously! I could just stop here and be happy enough. I mean, i obviously won't stop here, but I could

I wonder if many speakers can work well in many rooms if set up properly *Remove the RDC cones and the Townshends and the sound might suggest speaker room mis match *You don't have to do this really

Question: why have the power amps up high, rather than keep them on the lowest shelf?

Question: why have the power amps up high, rather than keep them on the lowest shelf? A valid question it is too! This is the layout I'd rather have, unfortunately it is dictated by the cable lengths i have; i needed to make a powerpoint diagram and link everything together and play with it until it worked as it was so hard to calculate.

Unfortunately, my right monoblock developed the same issue I had a while back. Being in the UK i felt comfortable sending it back to the manufacturer (Nick) to repair this time. He told me the bias was set all wrong on it (too low) and this was as a result of the repairs I had carried out in Australia. What's funny is I reported the amp running cooler than the one I never had trouble with to him. Anyway, it's plumbed back in and it sounds bizarrely better, than it ever has done before?! All i can think is I had trouble with it when in i had my old Quadrals. This is when i sent it off for first repair (low bias upon return). During this time i got my new speakers and so settled on that sound (which was very good). Now it's rebiased, I think I'm hearing them optimally, with the better speakers for the first time! I'm sat here revelling in the sound Btw, it'd be cool to have a couple of you over one afternoon, it's about time methinks!

I should add, I don't think the amp was properly repaired in Australia, hence the issue returning.
Nick builds rock solid gear and stands behind it too; great person to deal with.

Music server broke recently so off to Tonys i went today.
He was a courteous host and let me have a listen to his current demo system; first time I've heard it since 2018.
It was educational to say the least - a truly remarkable sounding set up.

I must admit, really was it five years you last dropped in Martin good grief where does the time go???
Now you have additions to your family plus years of experinace in Oz as well, still can believe its five years man its true what the say the older you get the faster time goes lol
Appreciate your comments as you know its always an ongoing evolution with that particular system, as you found out having a vanishing low noise floor can heighlight other issues you didn't think you had lol
Will try and get around to your music server this weekend Martin

Not been having much luck with the system as of late; server is kaput and the amp fault has returned, logistics, money and life mean I have been without for four months... Cue Tony helping out by lending me a Belles Aria integrated while he looks at mine - what a legend. Really interesting to have a different amp in my system and it really is remarkably good; in fact it is an excellent piece when you consider the price point. It's articulate from top to bottom, got a shit load of bass definition and texture and most importantly is great fun to listen to! Drives my speakers with real gusto and refinement. Makes one wonder what say, the mb200s are capable of. I have helped a mate set up a little active speaker system over the last few months and it's been a joy to listen to and DJ on. Was amazing to add RDC, entry level black rhodium RCAs and speaker cables, as well as liberating them from the tyranny of his wobbly old table - I built him some redwood speaker shelves (will add some pictures later they're beautiful) and we reckon all in we got a 50% uptick in sound. I also for one night only bought over a load of Shakti stones, Bybee clarifiers and my Mad Scientist USB cable - I couldn't believe the upgrade again! Anyway, I got used to this sound as it was my surrogate system over this time and forgot what my speakers are actually capable of. Whilst it's amazing how much we got out of a pair of budget actives, it is nice to return 'home' again and be reminded there are levels to this game. Keen to get my amps back; I've been bigging this system up for years and have a night when some mates are coming over for a little DJ battle / listening session, my neighbours have been prewarned

Martin, in lieu of a kaput server, have you considered putting your files (or at least a subset) onto Google Drive? Many streamers can stream from it just like a local file server. It might get your music up and running more quickly.

Tony is the man; amp returned and back in working order, despite me telling him it was not.
I mean, how was I to know an RCA cable to the DAC had come loose 😂 / 🙈. I felt like a right plank but also relieved to know all is well now.

I finally got a SATA : USB connector so i can access my old servers SSD, i know that a few albums of classical on there are not available anymore and i wanted to back them up.
I went through everything to ensure there weren't other albums I'd have to rebuy if the SSD were to fail (e.g. hdtracks purchases) - 295gb of albums later i was done! Took four days to upload.

How’s everything sounding now with the amp back?

How’s everything sounding now with the amp back? [br That's a good question and not completely straight forward. It was really interesting having the belles in there for one key reason - having an active gain stage vs my resident tvc. It was eyebrow raising how much more clean bass definition, energy and (most importantly) articulation it could produce. Really a great amp, certainly for the money. I got curios and bypassed the belles' internal pre with the TVC, and it produced a more refined, yet ultimately flatter sound. Odd. So, I get my amps back - they're working perfectly, and so are immediately plugged back in with the TVC (no digital direct to monster monos here, sir). Once warmed up, I compare notes. The p6s are really beautiful and refined sounding amps, with effortless control over the entire frequency range. Better than the belles? I think so. Am i unbiased? Absolutely not, I've invested an awful lot more into this approach and have an emotional connection to it. That said, it's a resolving, refined and fun sound that really gets to the heart of a performance. The p6s respond much better with the TVC than the belles, i made sure input impedance wouldn't be an issue with the dac - tvc - power combo before i invested. One thing i will say though is now i am genuinely interested in trying a top notch active preamp as I've experienced bass articulation that the TVC can't match. I wonder if i can get the absolute quiet background, superb transparency, lucidity, and touch of magic of my TVC with the ultra resolving grip of a great active? So yes, been a really interesting experience having a stint with a competent alternative.

A DAC with active output stage will give you the power and control you yearn for.

Not listened for a bit, personal stuff has been a distraction.
Got old faithful turned on with the tara labs burn in, i reckon I've got 40 hours worth in there, will leave it on repeat at low level until tomorrow evening.
Having a final tune session with some mates before i move *again* sheesh. No idea what the new place will be like acoustically, not optimistic. I'll give it some time before I work out if I want to stay, then go through the hassle of transporting it all.

When I next move, it won't be to a place with poor acoustics in the room I want to use. That'll be rejected immediately.
Bear in mind, my next move is likely to be my last. A good room is top of my priority list.
