I bet he could build a lawn mower that could do Martin's grass quicker than that!

I was thinking that him hot-rodding my mower could solve a couple of problems!

Jeff has teamed up with... Johnny Depp? It's rather good too, and it's a bit different than the original, written by John Lennon.

I've been listening to You Had It Coming again today. Tracks like Dirty Mind and Rollin' and Tumblin' are incredibly vivid and immediate on Qobuz. Beck's guitar explodes from my speakers as if I'm listening there in the studio. Surely some of the cleanest and least compressed recordings out there? A vivid experience. open.qobuz.com/track/34429

^ Well I'm going to give it a go, but JB hasn't really floated my boat too much over the years. I might have caught him on a bad night, but I saw him about 12 or 15 years ago and nearly fell asleep!

Dig in Tim It's one of his best Indeed. It was you who introduced me to it. I remember the first time I played, at work. Reasonably loud. First few bars Hello ? Something very special going on here

Well I gave it a go, but when it started I literally said 'WTF is this' out loud - I thought I'd hit the wrong button in Spotify, or they had got the album wrong and I had to double check. Grunge, garage metal or something! Bloody awful to my ears and I abandoned it after Rollin' and Tumblin'. Sorry chaps, it was dreadful . . . I'll get my coat

Interesting thread, I've only just come across it. Never knowingly heard JB before. Watched the YT vids. Very introverted, self absorbed style of playing. Reminds me of some other musician, but I can't place it atm. He certainly gets some interesting effects I don't think I've heard before. He does like playing with that little stick thing [technical term] on the geetar, some sort of tremelo effect. Not that keen on it myself. I guess I agree with pjd's views. From the little I've seen and heard my overiding impression is that he's a great technician rather than a great musician. Tried You Had It Coming. Oh dear. What a racket. I agree with Tim. ... back to the Franck violin sonata.

Are there any recommendations for something a little less in your face?

jandl100 and TimSome thoughts from me: I wouldn't recommend any of those three as a first dip into Jeff Beck's work, myself. OK, possibly Emotion & Commotion, but if you don't like 'You had it coming' you probably aren't going to be predisposed towards that either. 'Guitar Shop' is the one I always suggest people try... ...but my own faves are the crustiest of his classics - 'Truth' and 'Beck Ola'. Recorded with a top notch band including Rod Stewart before he disappeared up his own arse.

Emotion and Commotion.
I Put a Spell On You, with Joss Stone singing, is outstanding.

For me Guitar shop and the live album recorded at Ronnie Scots. I also like the first few albums with Rod before he sold his soul For me no one phrases like him. A guitar Guitarist for sure.

Well I just surprised myself, I actually have a Jeff Beck album, Wired.
Didn't think I had any . . . . looking at my play stats I've only played it once, so it didn't stick.
There is a song I do like, don't remember what it was but it was in Californication, pretty sure it was JB
