I moderated as you and Jammy were just winding each other up I understand that and it's fair enough. What I meant to ask is why does it say "moderation not needed" when it clearly was, it doesn't make sense. 1st time I saw it was in one of Marco's posts and I thought it was just him being cheeky lol

I would suggest most of us have a decent system because we enjoy music. I do not see how you can create a magic formula to say what we prefer the most. Perception is something people have its not something worth worrying about as people will have that no matter what you do. I go onto music forums as much as I go onto HIFI forums and none of them knows anything about my system as its not part of anyone debate. I might talk about a gig or a album or discover new music. Often its the fun of debate and interaction with people who share a similar passion but have a different take take on it

Yes understand I should of been more specific but was just trying to diffuse.

I started out by having significantly more invested in my music than "system" (first was a Sony walkman with enhanced bass headphones lol). Now I have a collection that is varied and I'm still exploring it. As my knowledge and means to acquire have increased, I've made changes accordingly to the system to increase enjoyment. SO, the ratios have changed substantially and ( truth is I'd have bought a hell of a lot more music if I could find newer stuff I liked) I argue I'm still the same music lover I've always been, I've just got better means to enjoy it Exactly, Martin.
If I won the lottery tomorrow and went out and blew £200k on a system (not saying I would), while keeping my current collection, would I suddenly become less of a music fan?
The whole thing is cobblers.

Indeed, Martin, but that isn't what I was saying, and I have no intention of explaining myself further, as it would be a futile exercise and only end in a circular argument Rest assured that my comments certainly weren't aimed at you or anyone else like you. Hope you had a nice holiday, btw Marco.

Leaving aside the music lover or not argument, it's difficult to say whether I'd ditch the music collection or the hifi. It'd be easier to sell the hifi, and I doubt I'd get much for the CDs and records, as very few are rare or collectable, so on purely pragmatic grounds, it'd probably be the hifi. But if I were really up against it financially, I'd most likely downsize the house, which is worth many times the music collection and hifi together, and which (I hope) would sell very quickly.

Plus these days there's a huge amount of music available that doesn't require a physical collection of records or CDs, so it's possible to be a 'REAL music lover' without any 'collection' at all. +1 BTW The Internal Combustion Engines Are Still 85% Inefficient, so I try to use a bicycle whenever possible and work from home.

I've had some of my albums for 45 years or more and all I've ever aspired to is the best system I can afford to play my music on at any given time. In the long run I'm much more interested in the music itself rather than the means by which it's reproduced. Oh, and I don't drive. That's my two-pennorth then; I'm done.

Car engines are quite inefficient, but so are our bodies in terms of fuel efficiency and the cost of that fuel. I remember a study being published a couple of years back saying, in essence, that the environmental impact of food production and distribution was such that a journey of three miles or less was better undertaken by car than cycling in terms of net co2 contribution!. I can't be bothered to find a reference, but I did find it amusing at the time Alex
