That's the trouble with generalisations......they're generalised. There's too much diversity in life to tag people based on such simplistic notions.

I not sure judging someone music status really matters to be honest People find different ways to express that enjoyment Like Tim I always considered myself a music lover first but anyone on a HIFI forum has traits of being a audiophile at the very least

I don't feel the need to advertise, or discuss my " STATUS " with regard to my music collection.
Sounds like a bit of willy waving to me. me neither... I sing (badly) in the shower, and no willy waving involved... does that count Marco? oops, unintentional visual image, sorry bout 'dat.

This is a facile debate . To what end does a hierarchy of music lovers serve ? It is like trying to prove you love your wife more than I love mine , I DONT CARE !!!! and when I get home and untie her and tell her to cook my tea before I put her back in the cupboard , that is what I will tell her .

In the left corner weighing in at 15 levels of (stainless steel) mana and 'eavy thermionic's and Scotland's finest dual concentric's with the intellectual prowess of a Walthamstow market trader on speed and the verbal jab of a harpy's talon. The Amalfi Citrous bruiser. Squaring up tonight against the Italian lemon squeezer extraordinaire in the blue corner weighing in at a double bag of Mc Cain's finest on the left shoulder with the stamina of a Madagascan red backed rock lizard and the rapier whit of a blunt rusty church key is Jammy. So gents place your bets:- Who has the most expensive music collection in relation to equipment. I would like to put forward my pet Squirrel Boris and open the bidding at two (2) Buck Fizz albums and a reel to reel copy of the Spinners (Live) "Leaving of Liverpool" rare as rocking horse droppings and the piste De la resistance a 1976 cassette tape (Original case I might add) of Beyond the Black Crack by Anal Magic & Rev. Dwight Frizzell I doubt if anyone here can top Boris's stunning collection of music all beautifully reproduced on a full MBL reference system that's housed in his top tier of the oak at the end of the garden. What a lucky tree rat Boris is! Mind you has some competition from Floyd the Muntjac dear who's collection is frightening large, so much so it has to be housed in the woods behind the house, though he is frightful music snob, however Boris mercilessly extracts the urine on a regular basis due to his (Floyd's admiration for flat earth equipment) What a fickle world we live in

Like Tim I always considered myself a music lover first but anyone on a HIFI forum has traits of being a audiophile at the very least Of course, John. However, like me, you're also an 'audiophile'; so in effect you're an 'audiophile'/music lover. I just get the feeling sometimes that folk pretend to be one more than the other [almost because only one is considered as 'cool'], when in fact the opposite is true, instead of simply being honest with themselves! Here's a thing... Is the person with only six books, all by, say, Alasdair Maclean, a book lover or merely a fan of Alasdair Maclean? And if it's the latter, then how can someone with six CDs of Jimmy Shand be considered as a music lover....? Do you see the distinction I'm trying to make? Marco.

John, same here, mate. But I'm sure you know what I'm getting at... It's almost like some folk feel ashamed to admit that, actually if tuth be told, they're more into hi-fi than music - and I'm talking about the sort of people who post on hi-fi forums, not the general public. Marco.
