Various nudges from different places have me pretty committed to all of the above. Not totally, yet My early life is to blame due to shortage of money. Anything that seems remotely useful is (was) kept. That's my story. I appear to be a bit of a hoarder. The company I worked for said they would sell, donate or bin loads of kit, material and other. They changed this to bin everything, no matter what value. I took it, couldn't bear the waste. Too slow moving it on although I have managed a small amount. Huge amounts of paper and card given away. Having different levels of the same upgraded path in hifi is a bit of a clue to how much gear I have. Still loads of that to sell. Are hifi enthusiasts worse for keeping their kit ? What tips do you have to ease into the minimalist era ?

I like a bit of clutter - my hifi den has a lot of doodads and wall decorations.
I generally don't hang on to hifi bits - quite happy to sell to make room for the next bit of hifi fun.
I have been de-cluttering my CD collection, though. I only hang on to it in this age of streaming "just in case". All the CDs that no longer interest me have been making their way to the charity shop. Quite a long process as there is a fair bit that is now music history as far as I am concerned.

We have a huge amount to do, especially as we are losing our garage in a few months which we have always used for storage!

I am really bad at keeping things for a rainy day. Our loft is crammed with all those things that we think we MIGHT need again in the future LOL.

I have been reducing and decluttering for a few years now. Still lots more to move on, but it all takes time and effort to sell.

When the boss suggested we could move to a new place and move all the junk to a barn there to sort I had a moment. Madness This is not what I want to do under any circumstance
We need more storage in our place. Too many of the items are and will remain unused

For the last two years I've been threatening to put loads of things, both, hifi and guitars, on eBay but so far I haven't even got around to photographing them.

Recently worked out what hifi I still had to sell. Felt not good at all. Working out what I had sold made me feel better. Hifi on forums for me. Can be time consuming. Once the kit is gone its gone

I'm not really one for hanging onto things just in case they might be useful someday, and rather enjoy throwing things out. That said, I have large collections of physical media - records and comics mostly - which occupy a lot space. This puts me at a disadvantage whenever I try to suggest that we get rid of some the actual clutter that my partner seems intent on keeping.

That was(n't) fun
Car trailer on Freecycle as I couldn't be bothered with Ebay hassle.
1st collectee didn't answer email for 24 hours so I gave him a deadline "Sorry for the faff, go to the next"
2nd *absolutely* wanted it. Weekend preferred. Sunday 11am arranged after a reminder asking them to confirm No show by 2pm. Emailed Sorry car is in the garage
Strictly speaking I missed a few and jumped to a guy who had emailed me saying he could collect anytime. Reply Sorry can't make today (Sunday) as I've had too much to drink ! Came at 9.45 am Monday as arranged
Gone !
Next time for a similar item I will have a bash at Ebay

I managed to buy the wrong mattress for my son but can't return it as it was a special order ... Now taking up space in his room, just hoping to get it sold.

I thought you were going to say you'd have it, but unfortunately you didn't have a trailer any more!

I've a few bits n bobs but not much. The prices it would fetch means I'd rather hang onto it.
Even if it sits in the loft.
Unused.
For years.

What you are obviously lacking is a camera collection. True. I only have a Canon EOS 450 and a Canon IXUS 155, assorted lenses, flashguns, tripods, remotes, a battery-grip and spare batteries, and more general paraphernalia than you could shake a (selfie?)stick at. Just the two cameras, though.

No, that's definitely not a collection. Must try harder.
