I heard that was on the cards for a while, just waiting for confirmation in the press.

It's a shame as Arrivabene appeared to have what it takes. However, it seemed clear that he would be sacrificed after Ferrari's failure.

I believe that Mattia Binotto is favoured in the upper echelons of the Ferrari management team.

Yes, it seems that Marchionne wanted to remove Arrivabene before he died.

Arrivabene wasn't Ferrari's problem. The team produced very competitive cars under his leadership. Lewis Hamilton is Ferrari's problem. Had he and Vettel swapped cars at the start of last season, Hamilton would have won the championship just as convincingly. if Ferrari want to be World Champions again, the best way to get there would be to make Sir Lewis an offer he can't refuse.

Completely agree with you. Lewis is by far the better driver.

Just read a couple of books I treated myself to: Aussie Grit: My Formula One Journey by Mark Webber How to Build a Car by Adrian Newey
Both excellent reads, very interesting to get opposite viewpoints, one from the driver and one from the technical side.

Nice to see Halo filtering down to Formula E and I hope F3 / F4 too. Henry Surtees would still be alive and no doubt racing if his F3 car had been so equipped.

I guess we've become used to Halo now and moved on. Much better than a closed cockpit on open-wheelers.

First day of testing today and Mercedes seemed to be sandbagging, whilst Ferrari looked incredibly quick. McLaren and Haas broke down and Raikkonen spun on his first flying lap.

Mercedes sandbagged last year, too. They were also on the 2nd hardest tyre.

How long has it taken them? I always questioned Lowe's abilities and don't see that he contributed much to Mercedes at all. SOURCE

So once again we see that Ferrari have the best car after the first pre-season test. Hamilton remains positive while Bottas is already whinging about Mercedes being behind. It looks like the Red Bull/Toro Rosso and Honda package is a good one - I knew a company like Honda would get it together in the end. Renault are a surprise and that's great for fans of Ricciardo who love to see him cut through the field. Alfa Romeo and McLaren also look fairly reasonable.
On to the 2nd test, which starts to shake the field down somewhat.
