So, here's a thing... I've just remembered that I hadn't updated Volumio's config.txt to my incredibly modified version. I stopped the album I was listening to, remembered that I needed to allow SSH in volumio/dev via the browser, kicked WinSCP into life and logged into my Volumio installation. I overwrote the config.txt with my version, exited and started the album up again. #1). It does, I believe, sound "better," there just seems to be more depth all-around, without getting into micro-descriptions. #2). I'll swear it's louder too. Anyway, for anyone using a Pi who wants to give it a try, here's my modified config.txt PLEASE NOTE it's a version that should disable the USB output. Delete the lines... #Force max current to USB max_usb_current=0...If you're using USB for your signal out. The usual rules apply, if you have no idea what you're doing then you're best not doing it.

I've been using Volumio 3 now for many a listening session. Stable, only had the 'I won't play the track you want, I'll play the next one' bug once, so far. When it happens, that's how it is for the rest of the session. It was rife in all the 2. versions. It might be connected to running the Volumio app in the background and running other apps - I never got enough consistency to pinpoint the sequence of events. Neither did the Volumio team!
The menu and playlist selection handling is much more logical and predictable..
Major bonus is that if you are within say Qobuz, and you search, you only get Qobuz results, Spotify only results if you are within Spotify. Before it listed every bloody Spotify hit first, always Spotify first, Qobuz at the very end of endless scrolling.
Tapping on the 3 dots beside a playing track and getting to view the artists works or goto album, working as it should, is also new..
Spotify connect works perfectly (if I choose to use it - seldom).
I shutdown and power off after every listening session. Always connects up smoothly, after the wake up chime is heard.

So have they changed the UI and how does it perform?

Search me. I use it the same way I always have done, with the original "Classic" interface. It's much better for the way I use it.

So have they changed the UI and how does it perform? It's much better. More logical to use. If you like / favourite something in Volumio Qobuz, it updates the source, so it shows up in the Qobuz Android app (for example). There's an option to find albums/tracks by the artist you are playing. Search is more user friendly. I only have Qobuz set up. On the occasions (very rare), that I use Spotify I use the 'connect' function rather than from within Volumio. The only bug that bugs me a little bit, but not much, that is still there, is that after a while if you select a track in a playlist you a listening to, it plays the next song. Select the preceding song and you'll get the one you want. Exit that playlist and into a new one and it's okay again for a while. Other than that, it's very good. Vast improvement.

I'm still using V2. Does V3 now sound better than V2? Thanks. Can't say really. Maybe, meh! Certainly wasn't worse🙂 Fixes a lot of usability issues and a few bugs though 👍 Still no fix for the perennial - select a track and it plays the next one in the playlist. Shows up at some point in to a session, every time I use it.

Hehe, I just updated to the lasted V3.251 31st March 2022. Smooth as always. Only trouble is that now the bug where you select a track in a playlist manually and the next track down the line is played instead - it's now 2 tracks down the line - dooh!🙄

I was starting to be tempted by a used Volumio Primo, until I discovered that it doesn't have a digital optical output option. That's a "must" for me, as my digital coax path is reserved for my CD player/transport, and I don't particularly want to return to USB.
That idea's down the toilet now, and I can't help but think that they might be missing a trick for what would probably be a minimal addition to manufacturing costs.

Hi Folks
By way of introduction I am an old friend of Mike G's but unlike Mike I use Spotify via an RPI3/HiFi Berry Digi + and have just updated to this latest version of Volumio but frustratingly for me the Spotify plugin although it installs successfully it fails to "enable". Do you wise guys out there have any advice?
Thanks Andy

Isn't there somewhere in the Spotify plug-in to put your account credentials? Are you sure they're correct?

Hi Slinger, you stay on top of the Volumio releases and may be able to answer a question. I’m many versions back, but am curious if one can now sort on the app. by ‘date added’ to a NAS music folder? Cheers

Hi Slinger, you stay on top of the Volumio releases and may be able to answer a question. I’m many versions back, but am curious if one can now sort on the app. by ‘date added’ to a NAS music folder? Cheers The simple answer is no, there is no facility for doing this on Volumio. It's been in as a feature request for about 5 years, but they don't seem to weant to touch it. The convoluted answer is to have a look at a plugin for Volumio named " Volusonic". It involves setting up web-based servers and all sorts of other nonsense. I started to test one solution which let me bugger about for a bit and then told me that after July I'd need to pay for everything. Binned that. Unless you're prepares to spend time and probably money I'm afraid it's a no go.
