After about 9 months I've just switched back from my mini-PC to my ATB setup. After updating Volumio, and remembering which IP addresses I needed to change, my immediate reaction is that I do prefer the ATB, it just sounds "better," somehow. More, tighter, bass? Possibly. More space between the instruments? Some such arcane airy-fairy muso-speak bollocks probably. As you may have noticed, I'm not a believer in "subterranean noise floors," and "inky-black whatevers." I don't do review speak, and I think it's fairly pointless, me trying to describe a personal subjectivist experience in a quasi-objectivist way. S'better. OK? EOS!

For a generic computer, the ATB still makes a very good streamer when combined with Volumio. I'm not sure there's anything out there that can outperform it at that price point. Glad it's still working well for you, Paul.
You'll need to work on your muso-speak, though.

... More, tighter, bass? Possibly. More space between the instruments?... . Mein Gott - some useful descriptive words from Paul. There you go, did it really hurt as much as you expected?

Say after me "there was more air and space deep into the soundstage".
Now go into that small cupboard and scream.

The ATB is very good but I have decided to ditch USB for AES using a PI2AES and an 8GB RPi4. My ATB will shortly be up for sale along with my AQ USB cables and reclocker.

I'm collecting a new DAC tomorrow and intend to use with a Raspberry Pi 4 and Volumio. I have set the Pi up this afternoon and under 'Playback Options' deselected the i2s setting and was then expecting to see USB in the audio output, but there is only HDMI and Headphones. Is this because I don't have the DAC connected or have a missed a setting somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Yes...I’m fairly sure that Volumio needs the DAC to declare its identity via USB.

Agreed, the DAC needs to be connected and powered up.

For anyone who wants my updated Volumio config.txt fior the Pi4 here it is. Standard warning: If you don't know what it does, and/or you don't know how to change it, you're probably best off ignoring it. More info here: archimago.blogspot.com/2020/10/musingshow-to-raspberry-pi-4-touch.htmlIf you're tempted to give it a go don't forget that if you're using a USB DAC you really don't want to disable the USB ports. So delete this bit... #Force max current to USB max_usb_current=0

I am very out of date with Volumio, haven't used it for 2-3 years Is it worth trying to update and how much pain might there be ?
