I'm really hoping that BT5 works out for me.
Volumio sounds great as others have said but I can really do without the constant upgrades, regularly losing various settings and hoping it's going to work properly.

If you don't like tinkering, Volumio can be a real headache Jules. Some like that, I didn't use to mind tinkering but not anymore, I just want to hit play and relax with a dram.

I haven't needed to "tinker" once since I stopped using the Pi and switched to either the Mini-PC ot the ATB, and then it was only the Pi code I was hacking, not Volumio. It updates, it works, rinse and repeat. Simples.

Exactly Tim!
I can't stand having to troubleshoot it on a regular basis.

I must admit, as an uninvolved observer, it seemed totally potty the amount of work that several of you had to put in just to keep the bloody thing going. I guess Volumio is ideal for ex-vinyl-heads who miss the farting around with LP cleaners, stylus brushes, record sleeves....

So that's a wrap then!
We all agree then, it sounds good, but. A bit like Unix back in the day - faff to use and stoke.
I'm using it at the moment until something else comes along.
Using the app does remove a few of my chief bugbears with it. One day a Qobuz connect might come along.
My solution with RPi / Kali -> I2S would cost me ££££'s to achieve by other means, or perhaps only get close to via spdif. So I'll suffer on a bit longer.

To be a little more balanced, Volumio became pretty robust and bug-free once they got serious with the new UI version and the online updates worked reliably. I had few problems after that. It's still one of the few streamer OS that supports files, Spotify, Qobuz and Tidal.

I have to say so far Spotify Connect has worked perfectly, as compared to the LMS implementation which was always a gamble if anything would play.

It's still one of the few streamer OS that supports files, Spotify, Qobuz and Tidal. Exactly that. Martin was the only one who had major problems with updates wiping out his settings, it's always worked fine for me. As for the faffing, I think perhaps people are getting confused with the amount of code a few of us hacked about in the Pi config, which was nothing to do with Volumio. As I said earlier, I only use it for playing files on my NAS boxes, not streaming from external sources, and for that it's absolutely solid.

The Pi needed configuration to get the best SQ from it. No such requirement for the Tinker Board, which just works.

I found that I would often lose some basic settings after an update so I started leaving it longer between updates. Personally I won't miss it if I can leave for greener pastures.

I think the Volumio GUI is better than the SOtM GUI which is lumpy in comparison The Limetree GUI was a bit better when you they sorted it out. I saw the Nova GUI and was pretty impressed with it closest to Roon which I think is the gold standard for this. My only issue with BT is I have to go into settings each time I turn on my Tablet a part from that it is just play and not worry Steve if you can go SPDIF why not try a Bluetooth 5 receiver. Very cheap and the sound quality will surprise you I still find it hard to believe that a BT receiver costing about 30 pounds sounds better than the ATB and at the same level as the Limetree perhaps a touch better than the LT

You can automate in Android. When my phone senses the car's Bluetooth, it automatically opens EasyTether, preparing for the USB connection.
