If you're a lover of the arts, live theatre and live music, then for me, yes. Move to Edinburgh then. Great for all that stuff and a good distance from Londinium or enjoy the night life in newcastle

Can you ever be "too far" from London? Well, I am half Scots/half Geordie. Does that mean you are a mackam lol Nah, I'm from Westerhope originally. My Dad was from Skye and my mother was from Shieldfield.

There's a lot to be said for Newcastle nightlife.

I’ve a pair of Genelec 8010a’s upstairs, plugged into a Roland MC909 groove box. Neither see much use these days due to lack of free time, but when I bought the Genelecs a few years ago I set them up in my living room and was blown away by their capabilities.
Seriously good sound and loudness ability for these pint size speakers, only lacking in bass depth not quantity compared to larger speakers. A bargain. I plugged my phone into them the other day and really enjoyed them.

Must be market pressure to make small speakers sound good as few people have te space for large. Yesterday's event really underlined that for me

My cheapest system I would truly enjoy has been updated as of yesterday:
Raspberry Pi with HiFiBerry Digi+ (or DigiOne if you could push to it) driving SMSL Q5 DAC/amp driving Electric Beach Blackwoods or (on a very tight budget) Wharfedale Diamond speakers.
Superb!

Thoughts yet on alternative power supply for the Q5 ?

Superb! I must admit, I was wondering about the Q5 with a Pi. Apart from anything else it would obviously make for a wonderfully compact system. The perfect "student" setup perhaps?

Thoughts yet on alternative power supply for the Q5 ? I was surprised at how well the Q5 sounded yesterday with it's standard 19V switched mode PSU (all I did was put a snap choke on it). I need to compare it again with my linear power supply, but that only runs up to 15V so is disadvantaged in comparison. I would say it's inconclusive.

Have you tried it yet, Paul? No, it would mean taking the Q5 out of my computer system and with the way I've got the cables routed it would be a real pain in the arse. Also, of course, I really don't want to find out that it sounds as good as the £1000.00 amp I've just paid £320.00 for

Truly enjoy rather than get on with.
* My old Exposure III / IV that I got for £350 * Pair of Royd Sorcerers - £350 * Pioneer PL-71 - £350 * Theta DS Pro Progeny “A” - £350 or a Pi DAC combo for less * Van Damme HiFi UP-LCOFC cables throughout, easily less than £100. * Kettle leads

I have very fond memories of my Royd Merlins that I briefly owned, a stunning small speaker. The PL-71 I had was very good but I never got the best out of it sadly ...

I still miss those old Exposures. More musical than so many other amps.
