First time I have not cycled due to high winds. The other day was a warning I took The boss tells me that we're in for more now - due to climate change More frequent (and probably more violent) storms ? Oh the joy. I'm going to glue all my roof slates down. The storm last night nearly gave me a panic attack. The metal trim around my fireplace was rattling. Never heard that before.

Have a very good look around the house and outside for the future. I looked at the trees in the field next door and some of them look headed to our sheds at least. A laod more are queued up to fall on the power line for the road

I'd be telling the people around me to calm down.
Planes are designed for this kind of weather, worst case divert them to land somewhere safer. You fly, you take the risk you won't land where you wanted to.
I was coming into Heathrow on the red eye once from NYC, was diverted to Stanstead. Major PITA since my car was at Heathrow. Coming into St Lucia some years ago, we were diverted to Barbados. Not far away, but wrong friggin' island. Had to stay the night there.
These things happen.

Yes SSE, Martin. It wasn't clear yesterday, but Friday showed it to be a fallen tree and someone in the village spotted it while walking their dog. Hopefully the high winds will be over by next week as I will be flying back to Berlin then. Some years ago I was flying back to Berlin (from Zurich I think) and it took the pilot 3 attempts to get the plane on the ground due to a storm. It made reading my book quite tricky!

Doesnt look like you guys are getting any snow tonight. We are prepping for a Nor' Easter here. Could begin between 4pm and 10pm tonight and could see a foot of snow as it will continue through all of Sunday apparently.
Normally this would be great movie weather. But phone battery is so worn out these days that will have to resort to occasional youtube, reading and tea. Will have plenty to shovel.
Has it snowed in UK yet? What's happening with the weather there lately?

No snow in the South but distinctly chilly this evening. Snow predicted for later next week but we'll see.
Of course, it only needs approximately 5mm of snow to bring the trains to a halt and cause some idiot motorists to not only crash but block every bugger otherwise fully capable of adjusting their driving.

Wow. I'm a bit surprised by that. Here in NE people have become a bit cavalier/casual with their driving in snow without a ton of accidents. My friend went to Edmonton and said that people there drove like animals in heavy snow sliding around everywhere without many accidents. And so cold that cars have to stay plugged in overnight.
Here the city plow and sand/salt trucks are lined up by the dozen prepping hours before snow days.
How does the BRZ handle the snow Martin?

The BRZ is very tail happy in the snow. It's a lesson in control, letting out some air if necessary and taking it easy while avoiding all the idiot SUV drivers who think four wheel drive means they have some kind of advantage in braking.

Ahh ok thanks Jules. I'm in Massachusetts of New England in Northeastern US.
We usually get hit with about 2 or 3 big snowstorms each winter here.

Aha - that's interesting, do you know Boston well? My mother recently expressed an interest in visiting but I know so little about it beyond the obvious - what do you reckon, is it worth a trip?

I live about 40 minutes from Boston and have been there a thousand tines and i can get around in the there very well and of course would help her out show her around if needed. But I'm not sure what to recommend. It's a sports town and a college town and medical student town.
Restaraunts are expensive. There are museums though. Do you know when she'll be going and what she'd like to do?

That's very kind of you indeed but it's not a firm plan yet - we were just chatting the other day about possible destinations this year and she mentioned it's a place that she always wanted to visit. She's most into the arts and culture - I wouldn't mind a trip to the Boston Symphony myself so if we make it out there let's have have a rum session !

200% must do Jules. Let's meet up if you get here.
Ok so to offer some perspective...Boston doesn't seem to me like the kind of place a person would fly out to unless visiting friends or family. It's more like a place you can stop at on your way to a more exciting destination. It's not a massive city.
I will look around more in the next 2 weeks at what are the best things to see in Boston .

I very much enjoyed my trips to Quincy Market and the Boston Met museum. It's worth seeing Harvard, too. Travelling the trams is fun and we always found things to do, admittedly as day trips from where my dad lived near Albany.

LOL - you'd probably be surprised at some of the places my family gets to! On the weather front it was -1 with the wind chill earlier here. Went for a walk without gloves and really regretted it (I have poor circulation in fingers) so it turned into a very short walk indeed.

It's 2C outside at the moment, and getting colder.
Not a lot of fun loading up Ruth's car to be at her mum's for the next two weeks.
Really. No fun at all.

1C this morning and a tad slippery. Forecast for the rest of this week steadily getting colder.
I dare say our US friends are laughing at these temperatures!

Haha literally stopped snowing 3 hours ago. It began Saturday at 5pm. It's like a winter wonderland out there.
Have to call out of work today because my vehicle is still not working right after 2 visits since Friday to the mechanic.
Wow 23 degrees Fahrenheit here is -5c?
