We have no power, no Internet and one end of our lane is blocked. I hope you are coping alright Martin. Is it a tree that has blocked the lane ? I have seen some footage of part of the O2 arena's roof blowing off. Apparently a record of 122 mph wind recorded and gales stronger than the deadly 1987 storm that will be forever linked to Michael Fish. It only started getting interesting here about an hour a go.

We're ok, no worries. Can't work as the mast is down so no mobile signal and no Internet. We've got the candles out for tonight as I'm not confident about power being restored.
Yes, big tree down. It got a bit noisy around here a bit earlier!

It's ffing wild here now. I'm a nervous wreck. I only drink on special occasions now but this wind is making me want a few. My mother's house has some very large trees right next to it and I can't bear looking at them. In fact I want to hide in a cave.

Stay safe everyone. No problems here... yet.
I've got the LED camping lantern that's bright enough to be seen from the moon on hand, and I've decided against putting the recycling out. Jeanette always insisted on a gas cooker to help in situations precisely like this.

Was a lovely sunny day. Bit windy. Then no power from around 12
Message on my phone from SSE to say they were inundated and working as fast as they could
Going out into our road there was a large tree leaning very heavily on our overhead power cable. Supporting pole pulled 10-15' from upright Around 4.30 power back on. Well done boys
Not so well done the owner of the field next door and the state of so many of the trees queuing up to be next on the power line

We have power back. We were reading by LED torch earlier with a roaring fire going. No biggie, but there's an awful lot of clearing up to do tomorrow with broken branches everywhere.
Still no Internet.

There is something heart warming about a real fire or log burner with hot chocolate made with a kettle on the stove. Reminds me of the late 70's.

Leccy down still. Tropical fish slowly dying despite our best efforts at heating and oxygenating.

I used to have a 6' tank., Jerry, and I know how you must feel. About all you can do is bundle coats and blankets around the tank and hope for the best.

I hope you managed to save your fish Jerry. The news is full of reports of damage. The O2 arena is closed and a Simply Red concert is cancelled. Apparently this was a rescheduled gig due to coronavirus. Simply Red have said it is another blow to the music industry - I would say the hand of God was merciful

Power came back on at 2am.
Tropical fishywishies seem to be remarkably robust things. Twice last night 3 of the silver dollars were floating at the top, upside down. Not happy at all. Initially they looked dead.
But at 2am we sorted out the pumps and got heaters going again.
This morning all seems well, back to their little swimmy selves. Amazing. A few haven't yet been seen, but there are lots of hiding places. Overall survival rate seems excellent. Maybe stress will have a longer term impact but for now all seems OK.

Great news, Jerry. What temp do you run the aquarium at? We've got 6 tanks, 1 large (4 foot) and 5 much smaller. The big tank, including larger fish - silver dollars and clown loaches - tends to be around 25C, the smaller ones around 22/23C. Minimum temp recommended is around 20C, I think.
