On their way before I break my phone Did you get these screen protectors and gel case, MikeMusic ? I must say these ones are really good, make the phone look like new and the protectors fit properly with no sign of drift so far. I'm using one of these nowadays, it's offers good protection and saves buggering about with sticky screen protectors too. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CW1B291V

What's the impact on touch sensitivity, Paul? Reflections and distortions?

What's the impact on touch sensitivity, Paul? Reflections and distortions? I haven't noticed any downside and touch sensitivity appears seamless. Bear in mind, though, that I'm a light user, so ymmv as they say. They're dirt cheap though, so it wouldn't be an expensive experiment if they make one to fit your phone.

Both the charger and charge cable are important for fast charging mechanisms like Oppo's VOOC and SuperVOOC to be enabled. My Oppo only charges with SuperVOOC from the original 65W charger and cable. To see what is draining your phone, go to Settings | Battery and it should list the apps responsible for the highest drain. Check their permissions and, if appropriate, remove their processing in the background so they will only load the battery when you are using them. This is inadvisable for messaging apps, though. I find Edge is often the highest drain on my phone as I may have left many tabs running. If so, I do a Force Stop and the load goes away until I reopen Edge. It would be similar for Chrome. www.androidauthority.com/supervooc-fast-charging-686000/ I know that Chrome is my biggest drain but supposedly app activity is paused if unused. I'll see what mi have to say about the slow charging issue - might be on my way to a new phone much sooner than hoped ...

Not sure of this helps but I put my phone on airplane mode each time I'm charging to get faster charge by limiting as many background processes as possible while charging.

Sadly airplane mode had no effect on charging.
2 hrs 45 minutes "fast charge" today - someone has a sense of humour!

This may be the daftest question of the day, but have you checked under SETTINGS >> BATTERY >> ADDITIONAL FEATURES >> "Speed Up Charging" that Fast Charging is actually switched on? The next thing to do is swap out the charging cable, first making sure you have a replacement cable capable of fast charging. If you're really desperate try some isopropyl alcohol in the charging port. Also, make doubly sure that all of the plugs are correctly seated in all of their respective sockets in the charging chain. A partial connection can sometimes be ok for charging, but not fast charging. Ram those buggers home, Jules.

Yeah I've already been through software and hardware possibilities like that and it claims to be fast charging but I'm not sure about drowning it in alcohol just yet!

I've just watched a video that also states that if your charging port is dirty it will not turbocharge.

I've done it!
The mystery of super slow charging has been solved.
When I bought the phone there was no charger. So I bought the proper charger and used whatever USB cables were lying around. Last night I was divinely inspired to look in the phone packaging I had kept and found an innocuous looking white USB cable. So nothing to lose, thought I would give it a try. Boom!! The heaven's light shone on my phone and a beautiful animation burst onto my screen saying I was now **TURBO CHARGING**! I kid you not, it's like pedal to the metal on a Lambo vs a Yaris. Mind boggling speeds compared to previously, I can now get a full charge in less than an hour.
No rush to change the phone now. Amazingly enough I had never even heard of 'turbo charging' - why on earth they don't make this super clear in the original documentation I just don't know ...

Seems a good idea to put my credit card info on my Android phone so I can use the phone to pay
Any recommendations or gotchas to be aware of ?

Just set it to disallow use when the screen is locked. That way, it can't be stolen and just used for contactless payments.
Otherwise, contactless payment with Google Pay works well.
