This thread feels like a ghost town sometimes. There's nothing much to report when everything is working well. My Oppo X3 Lite phone is perfect for the job, I can't find any reason to replace it. The Eonon Android head unit in the car, though, is another matter. Very slow, clunky and prone to GPS taking ages to kick in. It's quite old, could use a head unit with more cores.

I don't have any regrets buying the Poco M5S - it's a bargain price and the phone is super quick and responsive. I would have preferred longer battery life and a better camera, will look for that when I eventually replace this Poco.

I've become convinced that over-charging the battery, fast charging, charging overnight could be a detriment.
I've had a Samsung Galaxy s21+ for 3 years. It can barely hold a charge anymore. By 5pm I'm at 15%.
The problem is that the USB charging port died ages ago. I use charging pads exclusively. The one in the car can't connect anymore unless it's after about 15 minutes of trying. And the one at home is slow.
I've recently discovered that in settings there is an option to limit the battery's full charge to 85%. I've long heard that 85% is optimal and that people shouldn't for example top their phone up to 100% if it's it's 80%.
On my next phone I will try the 85% battery limit.

I use the overnight charge calculation option, which charges the phone slowly to just reach capacity when my alarm goes off in the morning.

Ahhh ok. I'll have to see if I have that option. I'm watching a video reviewer named Flossy Carter that has hundreds of phone reviews and he is saying that his preferred method when getting a new phone is to run it down to 0% a few times throughout the course of his first week with the phone before ever "topping up" the battery.
I'll try that too with new phone.

I only used my quick charger once - otherwise it's just topping up with a "slow" charger which is plenty fast enough for my needs. My battery life isn't great so aiming to preserve what I have!

That's a really nice feature to have on a phone. Wish mine had it - I've inadvertently charged to 100% a few times having fallen asleep, which is rather annoying!

Fair enough, Paul. I'll have to just pick one method and stick to it.
Guys I just got a new phone, TAS is the first thing I added to my homescreen. I feel bad for anyone who doesn't have The Audio Standard or least An Audio Standard.
Wrong thread for this but I got arguably the best phone on the market the Samsung Galaxy s24 Ultra (please remember though I don't have TV or Wifi or cable at home or any tablets and only use a laptop occasionally to use MasterCam for work, this phone is it for me and on a mobile data connection).
Some of the AI features on here are absolutely mad. You can text in English and it's writing at the sane time in the other language you've selected and then you can hit send on a full sentence of Spanish text/or any language or have it spoken as audio. Any two people on earth can communicate no matter their language with this device.
Use the S-pen to circle any object, brand or person you see appearing anywhere on your screen and it searches Google or contacts for that product or person.
Taking photos it can erase an object, shadow or person with ease and it fills in the pixels that it thinks would be behind that object.
S-pen can be used to trigger the camera from a distance. It can convert anything you've scribbled as a note into text instantly.

Nice one Robert, you should have lots of fun with that. Are the speakers decent on it as well?

Thanks guys. Sadly, the speakers are not stellar, but still better than my last samsung device. Though I'm constantly Bluetooth connected either to car speakers or home soundboard.
Are you guys aware of something called the ROG phone? This thing is actually a beast for gaming so it has just the highest performances specs on earth as well as two accessories that attacch onto each end of the phone turning it into a gaming machine like the Nintendo Switch and apparently the speakers on that thing are outrageous also.
One good thing about this s24 ultra is that it uses sonething called Gorilla armor instead of gorilla glass as it's screen. It truly reduces glare from lights above unlike any phone I've seen and requires no screen protector.
Here's a look at that ROG phone BTW.

One reason why I didn't go for the full-fat Oppo X3 or X3 Pro is that the additional features seem mostly aimed at gamers and I don't game.
For exactly the same reason, I went for the Samsung S7 FE tablet rather than the full-fat S7.
For me, the extra features are wasted cost and poorer battery life.

On their way before I break my phone Did you get these screen protectors and gel case, MikeMusic ? I must say these ones are really good, make the phone look like new and the protectors fit properly with no sign of drift so far.

Put the covers to one side for when I can devote complete attention to doing the job properly and 'things' get in the way Have the case on, feels good

Here's a strange one. I noticed my phone was charging painfully slowly yesterday. So I decided to use the bundled fast charger that I never normally use. Even with the extra speed it was quoting 2 hours to charge from 20 to 100%! Apparently the phone is meant to do a full charge in 90 minutes.
What could cause this? It's not the chargers or cables. I wonder if a recent android update might have slowed it down? It's really annoying because my phone drains quite quickly too.

Both the charger and charge cable are important for fast charging mechanisms like Oppo's VOOC and SuperVOOC to be enabled. My Oppo only charges with SuperVOOC from the original 65W charger and cable. To see what is draining your phone, go to Settings | Battery and it should list the apps responsible for the highest drain. Check their permissions and, if appropriate, remove their processing in the background so they will only load the battery when you are using them. This is inadvisable for messaging apps, though. I find Edge is often the highest drain on my phone as I may have left many tabs running. If so, I do a Force Stop and the load goes away until I reopen Edge. It would be similar for Chrome. www.androidauthority.com/supervooc-fast-charging-686000/
