Vettel knew that it would be possible to finish in the top five from the back, because he has seen Hamilton repeat that feat numerous times. Hamilton could have won the race, but he is well aware that Verstappen has a record of being involved in the retirement of other drivers. Hamilton engine power was turned down later in the race, but he still held the same distance to Verstappen. Bottas was the surprise disappointment of the day. It once again clearly demonstrates that having the best car does not guarantee you a podium finish. You need to be able to drive the car to its true potential, not just the potential of yourself. Alonso is turning out to be a have been overpaid driver. Vandoorne was demonstrating that in no uncertain way.

True about Alonso, Stan, but then again I've never rated him as highly as some appear to do.

He has devoted his energies to whining, of late, and look where that got Grosjean!
I think Verstappen is a future world champion and Ricciardo will keep him honest. I hope Sainz calms down and delivers his potential at Renault - Hulkenberg will keep him honest! Williams need to work harder on their car. The Honda engine will come good for Toro Rosso. Ferrari undoubtedly have a fast car but there's a question over reliability. Kvyat is unlikely to return.
The end of the season is going to be edge of the seat.

The end of the season is going to be edge of the seat. I totally agree, and if Mercedes aren't careful and somehow sort out some of their car gremlins, Vettel will creep in and pinch the Championship from Lewis!

Vettel twat! But running a core temperature if 39 degrees (would put up in bed or at least down with the flu) and a tiring drive through the field make such errors of judgement more understandable. However all the other drivers do the same..
Playing the blame game for the radio / FIA is in this blame culture world and penalty fear environment makes it an automatic knee-JERK, I guess.
His habit of this is getting rather boring..

Yes Steve, Vettel's not getting the message. I'd like to see him get a race ban - oh, no I wouldn't, rather see the championship fight. Take the car damage repair(s) out of his paycheck.
Max could be a championship winner as early as next year now that Red Bull seem to be getting towards a car capable of it. Much as I don't like Hamilton, I hope he doesn't win it this year and bail, I relish the thought of a three way tussle. Hammy said in a post race interview that rather than him keeping up with the Red Bull, he could tell from the timings that Max was managing the gap. That was a deserved win - on merit, without caveat.
It's not that I don't have the utmost respect and admiration for Hamilton's ability and record breaking achievements, and I can understand that the degree of success can lead to a pop star attitude. It wound me up seeing his constant preening in every available reflective surface and now his latest thing, which has become quite regular, is being interviewed alongside a couple of other drivers, then disrupting their interviews.

Another fabulous pole and fastest ever at Suzuka for LH44. He has now secured pole at every track.
Seb will join him in P2 on the front row due to Bottas's grid penalty.
We may have some kind of a race if SV doesnt have one of his head-rush moments at start for turn one.

That was possibly the most awesome qualifying lap I've ever seen. The speed at Suzuka is breathtaking and certainly separates the men from the boys. The race start tomorrow will be interesting. Can Vettel get ahead into the first turn?

They have a narrow operating window. Hope it doesn't get too warm tomorrow.

Great win for Hamilton, but those last two laps were dodgy with reported engine vibrations. Could there be a grid penalty next race?
Vettel looks to have a huge uphill battle now to have any chance for the WC.

Great job by Lewis, let's hope it was just tires as stated by Toto and Niki, but I suspect it might be something else.

I do hope Sainz can pull it together for Renault. He's not been great in recent races but I think there's a superb driver waiting for a sympathetic car to show his skills.
