I am tempted to try a Power Inspired AG1500 in my system. One thing that is niggling me is the safety aspect of potentially masking the double pole RCD in the distribution board from a fault by running things through the regen unit.
I have e-mailed Power Inspired about this, but I was wondering if anybody knows how the unit would operate if one of my components went faulty? I realise it is not balanced mains, so I don't have +115v on live and -115v on neutral, but I am intrigued by how this device would work as I won't take any risks for a small sound improvement with a young child in the house.
Does anybody know for certain? One other option is the Airlink transformer with the optional RCDs fitted, and the other is just to leave the system as it is.

Do nothing would be my answer, unless you are convinced that
A) It is 100% safe.
B) There WILL be a noticeable improvement.
Do you have any DC on your mains ?

Yes I have a small amount of DC on my mains, but a DC blocker stops the amp from buzzing.

You guys knock me out. I have a Power Inspired and never even began to think of this. Then again I don't live in my head and fears. I just bought one and enjoyed it. I discovered I had the most amazing mains that is free of all the ills that Audiophiles are troubled by RFI, clicks bumps and buzzing.
Forget it and just accept nothing is perfect especially in the HiFi world. Learn to love what you have. Enjoy the music not your system.

I can't understand the issue or the problem. The earth continues through the regenerator and protects all its equipment. The RCD will trip if there is a differential in the circuit and again will protect the equipment. These things have been used by the thousands in studios, offices, hospitals and homes without issue. You will love the sound quality improvement.

Yes - seems a clear case of worrying about something that aint going to happen ! I suspect your equipment is much better protected when connected via a regenerator than when plugged direct into the mains. As I may have said before, when I started using a regenerator (also an AG1500) I took out all my equipment's 13amp plugs and distribution blocks and replaced with IEC - no switches, no fuses. Before doing so I queried with P.I. whether this was an OK thing to do and they assured me it was fine.

Indeed, I have used regeneration for three generations of kit, some 15 years. Of those, only the P300 failed and it blew its fuse: end of regeneration. It was fine after being repaired. After sampling what regeneration can do, especially the P10, I would not now be without it.

I don't have any switches or fuses to start with. Only the dual pole RCD, and internal equipment fuses.

I agree with all the above, when I had an AG 1500 I made a silly DIY electrical mistake and the AG1500 coughs it and tripped it's own internal safety switch. If your RCD protected you RCD will trip within about 30-50 milliseconds. With a AG1500 you have another tripping safety device between your RCD and Hifi, so therefore another layer of protection.

Thanks for the info. It looks like I may be placing an order for the AG1500 soon.
With the aircon, heat pump operation and fridges/freezers in the house, I am interested to see if it makes any difference (or not).

It's been well discussed elsewhere. The more you remove noise, especially impulse noise as from washing machines, the better the job your regenerator will do.

You will love the sound quality improvement. That is absolutely not true and demonstrates that you do not understand how an rcd works. It doesn't give a flying f*** what, if any, earth exists. It compares the current on the live and neutral wires and trips if one differs from the other. A transformer isolates one circuit from another. By a £5 tester and check for yourself rather than try to understand it, although it is quite literally ladybird book of electricity stuff.

Yup, both statements are correct and were not connected to each other by me. I know how an RCD works, thank you.

To be honest, if there is any doubt about safety aspects, I won't be changing anything. I am waiting to hear back from Power Inspired about what protection is built in to the AG1500. That should be tomorrow when they are back to work.

The PS Audio P10 has an inlet fuse and an output RCD to protect equipment that it feeds. I don't know the AG1500, but hopefully it would have a similar level of protection.
