Orchestras are steeped in traditions and practices that many outsiders would consider bullying. It doesn't surprise me to read that at all.
You should read Mozart in the Jungle for an inside view. It's highly entertaining.

Can’t wait to see the Bolshoi perform ‘Spartacus’ at the ROH in the summer.
Got the following warning with our tickets -
“seat is close to the orchestra which can be loud at times"
Oh dear, how will I cope with them blasting out all of those superb Khachaturian tunes!!
