Ok ballet haters I have another one booked at the Royal Ballet.
Looking forward to a triple bill featuring one of my favourite works - The Firebird. Just sublime.
We also get a ballet set to Bizet Symphony in C.

Not a huge surprise but welcome news that the very talented pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason is going to join her brother at Decca.

Much as I like Hilary Hahn, I don't think, on the strength of that excerpt, that I shall be adding to my collection of her work with this one.

I'm rather taken with it Paul.
Beautifully sinewy and plaintive tone, the music sounds full of introspection and possibilities to me.

I had the job of getting some new strings for my son's violin today. I had an idea of what I wanted but the advisor, who was a violinist, took the violin down to the workshop to see what they thought. Ended up with a new set (including a gold plated E string) for £75. Not cheap, but the moment I heard her demo the new strings I realised it was money well spent. The violin actually projects the sound more powerfully, with a cleaner and purer tone. System upgrade!!

And I moaned about the price of a set of strings for my new bass?

Looks like a good choice for the Philharmonia.

I'm just catching up with "Holst: The Planets with Professor Brian Cox" which I recorded a few days ago. The Planets is performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Each movement is introduced by Prof Brian Cox & set against the latest space imagery. It's very enjoyable so far. Great music, obviously, and Coxy making science interesting as usual. If you missed it, it's on iPlayer. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0005prm/holst-the-planets-with-professor-brian-cox

Try watching the BBC's new series The Planets, Paul. Cox is excellent explaining our latest knowledge about them.

As some may know already, I'm not a great fan of Yuja Wang. She does get quite a lot of stick from various quarters but I'm less bothered about how she dresses and her lifestyle, which is of no interest, than her style of playing which I have experienced in recital. Here is an interesting 'defence' of Ms Wang that appeared in Slipped Disc.

Interesting, Jules. I really must listen to her Rach 3 as enthused over in that article.

Please do Martin, I would be interested to know if it's as brash and heavy-handed as her live performance.
