I predict that Jules will absolutely love the spectacle of the whole thing, quite apart from the excellent music. Rheingold was quite stunning Paul with an exceptional modern production. Everything was totally on point and I won't forget the visit, quite an experience. I'll write a short review for this and also my visit to Sir Simon and the BRSO ... Jeanette (NOT a Wagner fan) and I watched a modern setting of the whole cycle on TV and it was terrific. Even she enjoyed it. Well, she told me she did. It's not available on BBC any more, but it was, I think, this wonderful production from Opera North, which is complete with English subtitles and on-screen notes that set the scenes up. www.operanorth.co.uk/the-ring-cycle/

Nice one Paul, I expect mother knows that production and will enquire.
I've already started looking for forthcoming productions of Die Walkure, Lol.

Why is German opera so strong? "Opera houses in Germany are almost impossible to miss. Every one of the 83 opera houses in the country is owned by the state, and puts on a full season. By contrast, in the USA, the Metropolitan is the only house with a full 52-week season. Tickets at German theatres are a steal compared to American and British ones, and almost all houses have regular programs for children, so family outings are both enjoyable and affordable." theculturetrip.com/europe/germany/articles/11-best-opera-houses-germany

I still get annoyed at the disproportionate lottery money given to opera in favour of classical music.
We might have had our new London concert hall had more funding been made available. It'll never happen now.
