Interesting, the video shows his skills as a countertenor. "But if I catch sight of a phone light flickering, I think: Jeez, switch it off."

Looking forward to some nice concerts at the ever fabulous Buxton International Festival. Was flying to Derbyshire expensive, and did you eventually get a drink on the plane?

Looking forward to some nice concerts at the ever fabulous Buxton International Festival. Was flying to Derbyshire expensive, and did you eventually get a drink on the plane? I learnt my lesson and chartered a private jet - lots of Dom Perignon on tap ...

An absolutely riveting production of Handel's Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno at the BIF today, will try to write up a review as it surely deserves one.

My mother attended one of Kathryn Stott's final recitals today at the Buxton International and was telling me how wonderful it was with her eclectic programme that she had to choose so carefully ...
Fortunately I'm going to hear same programme at Wigmore Hall later in the year.

"VP of Warner Classics UK & North America", indeed.
I've been to lots of classical concerts, not seen any baggage yet.

He also seems like the type of person to contaminate the classical catalogue with crossover crap.
A little bit is ok, too much and people will start forgetting what classical is all about.

Looks like Mäkelä is starting a Shostakovich cycle - this single precedes the release of 4, 5 and 6.

That snippet of Shossy 6 sounds like a pretty good performance to me.
The Oslo SO have always been giant killers with this sort of material.

Not had a chance to listen yet, Martin, I will be very interested to see what Dave Hurwitz has to say on the album, considering how harsh he has been on Makela's recorded output thus far ...

An informative and entertaining interview with KM about playing Shostakovich.
I look forward to hearing the new recording. Petrenko set a very high bar for Shosta with the Oslo Phil a few years back at the Barbican.

The album has now dropped!
Martin - I will be only listening on headphones so will be interested to see what you feel on a much bigger scale.

That's good news. I take Presto reviews with a pinch of salt as they are all written with an eye to generating sales. I'm more interested that you rate it positively.
