There are a few Respighis in there for me to listen to, as well. Talking of which I'm looking for choice recordings of the Roman Trilogy - got Pappano and Maazel to listen to. Anyone have any other favourites? Dutoit/Montreal and Louis Lane/Atlanta are both good.

I love going to the Royal Opera House and noticed that they have an orchestral concert there, featuring a selection of Rachmaninov songs which I would love to hear. www.roh.org.uk/productions/orchestral-concert-2018-19-season-by-orchestra-of-the-royal-opera-houseHowever, to get a half decent seat you need to spend around 70 quid and the concert features only around 60 mins of music! How can they justify that? If I was paying to see a full ballet production I could understand it with the costs involved but 70 quid to see their orchestra is asking a bit much I think ...

Everything about the Royal Opera House is overpriced.
They need a good dose of Henry Wood.

I'm not sure I agree Martin. Some ballets and operas are very expensive to stage and the price of tickets is no more expensive and sometimes cheaper than a rock or pop concert. There is an argument that the top stars get paid too much money but that's another matter ...
What is irritating is that so many seats have restricted views at the ROH yet are still very expensive. There are relatively cheap tickets if you don't suffer from vertigo but if I'm going I want to really enjoy it I want a good view so it can be around 80 quid for a ballet.

Dalia Stasevska has become the first woman to be given a conducting position with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The 33-year-old, who has only been conducting for four years, will be the ensemble's principal guest conductor, a role that has been vacant since 2006. Praised as a "brilliant musician" who provides "subtle guidance", she made her debut with the BBCSO in May 2018. Former guest conductors include Jiří Bělohlávek and Sakari Oramo, who both went on to lead the orchestra. STORY

Only at the BBC could this happen! The TV production of the Proms has been awarded to an independent production company following a competitive tender. www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2019/proms-tenderWhat the hell is the internal BBC production team meant to think of that - they've done a fantastic job for so many years. Just unbelievable, I am dumfounded.

Why do I still believe that it was simply awarded to the lowest viable bidder and that the nice reasons were concocted later?

It's always about price to these ignorant buyers.
I have this argument at work a lot. No-one wants to pay for quality. Unfortunately when the cracks appear it never seems to bite those who made the decision.
