The excellent Russian conductor Yuri Temirkanov has passed away aged 84. Oh, that's a shame. I saw him a few times and he had that easy control of the orchestra, rather like Eugen Jochum, that demanded respect. His Shostakovich was excellent.

Something must be up with Lang Lang - this seems a straightforward classical release!!
I'm suspicious. Maybe Daffy Duck will turn up at some point.

Anyone been to the Cobbe Collection at Hatchlands Park?
"The very instruments chosen by composers themselves form the heart of The Cobbe Collection at Hatchlands. The eighteen owned or played by Purcell, Johann Christian Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin, Mahler and Elgar, to name a few"
I'm going to keep my eyes open for future concerts there.
Here is Mahler's grand piano.

Reminds me of when I went to the Mozart museum in Salzburg.

It was a long time ago, but a beautiful city Jules. The salt mines are also worth a visit.

Ah that's annoying. I was able to read it once but can't access it again.
The film is a must see.

Gosh, not just any old symphony but Mahler's 2nd! He follows in Kaplan's footsteps, learning how to conduct what must be one of the toughest (and longest) pieces in the repertoire (albeit only a short section in Cooper's case). I'm definitely going to see that film.

A new release described by Classics Today as "the best live integral performance of the Transcendental Etudes ever preserved in sound."

I think this is a project worth supporting, it's from Nonclassical, the new music organisation founded by Gabriel Prokofiev, grandson of Sergei Prokofiev. "Four diverse composers will be supported to develop & premiere new works for orchestra through a wider development scheme – Nonclassical Artists in Residence. Over 2 years they will receive support to build the skills, experience & portfolio to sustain the often-challenging career of a composer." donate.biggive.org/campaign/a056900002RXqlaAAD

Let's hope we can preserve what we have.
