Talking of which, great to read that the excellent Gianandrea Noseda will be stepping up for what were to be three Mariss Jansons concerts at the Concertgebouw.

Can’t wait for this - one of the greatest recordings of all time IMO, Miserere by The Tallis Scholars from 1980 is being remastered by Gimell and released at the end of March.
The performance and miraculous acoustic in Merton College Chapel are just breathtaking.
I do hope that it finds its way onto Spotify et al …

...but Richter was never a Soviet pianist in the mould of his great contemporary Emil Gilels, whose double octaves sound as if they were intended to boost morale in a tractor factory. LOL - makes me remember that fun but crazy encore of him playing the Rachmaninov Prelude in g minor ...

Nah, sorry - I just can't get interested in the dweebs trolling on what is in effect social media. If people ignored them they'd go back to their sad, dull lives and leave the rest of us in peace.
Hewitt is far from my favourite pianist, but it must have been and still be a devastating blow, she has my sincere sympathy.

I think her sanguine approach is to be applauded. I'm not at all sure I'd be quite so "laid backt" about such a loss.

I just found it amazing that people can get so upset and rude to each other on such a subject!
I wonder if they are equally animated on other matters?

Sad end. I feel the same way when looking at ships in breakers' yards or written-off cars.

And there's more... Double bassist devastated after airport staff threw his instrument ‘from 4m of height’ into truckA double bass has been rendered unplayable, after suffering ‘irrecoverable damage’ on a Turkish Airlines flight. Double bass player Tihomir Hojsak has shared his frustrations online, after his instrument was broken beyond repair on a Turkish Airlines flight. On arriving at Franjo Tuđman airport in Zagreb, Croatia, Mr. Hojsak was horrified to find his double bass had arrived in pieces. Along with fractures to the body and damage to the strings, the bridge was snapped off – rendering the instrument unplayable. Since being reunited with his shattered double bass, Hojsak has shared the news online, accusing the airline of doing “irrecoverable and non-refundable damage” to his instrument. When you see the baggage handlers at airports throw cases around, this kind of damage is not surprising.
Musicians with big instruments must worry every time they travel with them.

< Plácido Domingo apologises to women who accused him of sexual harassment > www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-51627613Quite a murky case this one - he has been accused of " inappropriate activity, ranging from flirtation to sexual advances, in and outside of the workplace" The more serious charge is that he "had frequently pressured women into sexual relationships, and sometimes professionally punished those who rejected him."

So Ken Russell's infamous Dance of the Seven Veils is about to get only its second airing since 1970. I'd like to see what all the fuss was about for myself but can imagine that Strauss's family weren't best pleased at his depiction ... www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-51676381
