I'm watching episode 2 at the moment.
The content seems better than last week, but oh my, Chris Evans is not a patch on dear old Clarkson.
Perhaps the BBC can dub over Evans voice with something less grating ?
I'll probably record every episode for (as Martin says) the car content.

I cancelled my Tivo season pass. I might reconsider but really it's Evans that kills it He's worse than I thought he would be
Clarkson could be a PITA but he played up to it and the banter between the 3 of them was often excellent

I'm with you Tim, always happy to steer clear of it (old and new).

I confess to loving Evans when he was on Radio London, early 90s I think
Then he went off as he made more money. Still shouting and outspoken but not funny and veering to unpleasant

I watched half of Ep.2 last night and it was a strain. The McLaren car is amazing but Evans is so grating that I need to shut him off after a short while. Shame Button didn't join the programme as he was fun.

It really isn't a patch on the old series, shame. I think they'll have to change the format comprehensively and/or revamp the presenter line up.

Having finished Ep.2, I doubt I can take any more. Matt LeBlanc is a revelation, charming, capable, good driver and deserves to retain the role. Evans still annoys the hell out of me. And then there's Eeeeeeedjit....

I thought Eddie was bad enough in F1 but in Top Gear takes it to a whole new level. I agree Matt works for me too

LOL - do the BBC have the backbone to sack a second presenter?

Unlikely Evans has a charmed life
He was sacked from Radio 1 if I remember right Odd as he suits R1 perfectly, loud, annoying, boring and incessant Something about him they want

Wasn't he moved out of Virgin rather unceremoniously too?! Was due to his misbehaving. Getting the job on R2 was a big thing for him rebuilding his career, if I remember.

Im not hot on Evans in the part, he is too shouty think he is trying too hard, hopefully he will mellow in to the role, but I actually enjoyed the first 2 and # 2 was much better.

How come certain people are that lucky ? He hardly needs the money He has the gift of the gab. That might be luck but I'm sure he works hard at it. It's the remuneration side of things that needs a complete overhaul imho. Look at nurses pay at the other end of the scale for example!

Evans made most of his money due to his share of Virgin Radio which was bought out for a ridiculous sum. Good businessman or luck. Actually as much luck as anything as he admitted to not be great at business - though he is probably a lot more savvy than people think. Also sold out Ginger Productions for a large amount. He got bored and got himself sacked but of course he was in position were he never had to work again. Frankly I find him tolerable on radio these days - he has mellowed his style but Top Gear appears not to be a good fit.
Not entirely his fault. Frankly BBC should have found a way to keep Clarkson as after his departure it has become clear the man is something of a genius in pulling of what he did. I'm sure in a less PC world his bit of 'gay bashing' would have been ignored. I am puzzled why they have tried to keep the format Clarkson and his producer invented rather than start with a clean sheet.

One of my constant queries is the disparity between what some people earn. Entertainers and sportsmen worth more than health professionals
