Good luck from me too. It's a horrible situation to be in when someone is out to manipulate their position in order to harm others. Life does have an uncanny knack of delivering "Karmic Justice" so I only hope they get theirs before they have a chance to harm you further,
I know we all have to eat and provide for loved ones, but no job is worth a lot of grief. I sincerely hope you get a job you deserve and an employer who appreciates you.

Just a thought, but it might be worth keeping a diary to record any incidents or events that unfold from hereon in. If you end up at an Employment tribunal you may be able to show a concerted effort to make life difficult for you or set you up to fail.

Aye ....... Been there, done that. I was an Assistant Head Teacher, popular with parents and kids alike, getting excellent SATs results, lessons varied from good to outstanding according to OFSTED. New broom Head came in and that's where the problems started. Suffice it to say that within 12 months of this person's appointment I had (after the umpteenth summons to the office for yet another bollocking) told them where they could stick their fscking job and walked into the sunset.
I have never earned anywhere near even half of the salary I was on since that day. I went on supply; unpredictable, zero hours by the nature of the job before zero hours contracts were even thought of, poor pension provision etc etc. However I now have my health back, stress levels are low. Because I was mortgage and debt free, I was able to tell them to stick it; obviously not an option for everyone. Nevertheless no job is worth that kind of stress and I wouldn't like to think I would be at work looking over my shoulder all the time.

It's always astonishing how ONE PERSON in a position of authority in the workplace can change everything. I've seen it a few times myself and somehow the combined power of the rest of the staff seem to amount to nothing in the face of one belligerent individual.

It's always astonishing how ONE PERSON in a position of authority in the workplace can change everything. I've seen it a few times myself and somehow the combined power of the rest of the staff seem to amount to nothing in the face of one belligerent individual. I have seen this too. One individual who creates mayhem and takes delight in the unhappiness of others. They almost always overstep the mark at some point, but not before they have created a wave of destruction. Sometimes you just have to wait for your opportunity to take them out, but their egos invariably seem to offer up said opportunities. Watching them fall is a joy!

This was all supposed to be yesterday's news on rigs as it was so detrimental to the running of the installation. Open door policies were introduced and no aggression terms were introduced to contracts in order to stop twats like this getting hurt.
Hasn't worked.

There are good employers Speaking as one (an employer) and a soft one at that, I'd do a lot to get and *keep* really good people. It's a tragedy the good guys struggle to find each other With imminent expansion coming up we need one right now. With one guy retiring, lazy sod we need another in June. I reckon at least one more this year, maybe more We're in Shepperton, Surrey if anyone is interested !

I have had the pleasure and displeasure of working with what I consider very good and appalling managers in my career, to be fair, when I look back at some of my antics as a junior manager, I was down right horrible, had favourites, micro managed, all the usual crap!
Ironically the reason I was so bad initially is because I was promoted into a new role, because I'd been so good at the 'doing' role but given no prior management training and little support.
I've learnt the hard way that as a manager, you will never succeed unless your team respect and hopefully like you. Personally I've never been big on having to make tonnes of friends at work but I equally don't want to be hated.
I rate management, specifically line management as the hardest but equally most rewarding role I've ever done.
Recently I moved into Consulting and it all changes in this environment, I think I've seen my line manager about twice in the 11 months I've worked in the business and you do feel a little out there on your own but you get used to it eventually.
What's my point, not sure really but you find that the shit managers eventually get found out...

Training I think Paul So often promotions happen because people are > so good at the 'doing' role That's only *related* to being a manager Plus there are different types of manager required in different places and different roles Once I said a manager had to *know* what the punters were doing and how to do it. A good manager can manage almost anything 'Course they are like rocking horse droppings

I was taught by Xerox to Manage by Example. If you can't set a good example, and do the job of the people you're managing, you're pretty worthless. Sadly, that covers a great many managers.

I'd argue you don't necessarily need to know how to do your staff's job intimately but need to understand what drives them so you can capitalise on that to help them drive forward with there careers. I was always opposed to this idea up until my last role where I understood the bigger picture of the team and how to motivate them, but by no means understood the day-to-day doings of there roles and turned around what had been seen as an unachieving and lack lustre into a success.
