Great stuff. Fantastic to see you guys taking the initiative for the South of the country. Sadly don't think I'll be able to make it but wish you every success. It will be very popular I think.

Just bought a bunch of used Beck CDs off the online rivers a few quid - been meaning to try some of his albums for a while, as every time I hear a track of his on Radio Paradise, it's always good stuff (apart from one track I heard). Both Sea Change and Morning Phase are some of the most beautiful and melancholic you'll hear from him. Listen to them side by side as they a suite I think.

Joy Division - Transmission. The intensity of Ian Curtis makes this worth a watch.

The ever fabulous Half Man Half Biscuit from a recent gig I went to. Probably one of the best gigs I've been to in 2016. From the ramshackle way they take to the stage, to the offhand poetry of their lyrics and the crowd engagement, I love this band

It's not so much the idea Christmas I dislike, when I deconstruct it I like many of its constituent parts, time off, fancy food & drink, seeing family and friends, buying a loved one a gift etc. All of these things are good and enjoyable in themselves.
However when combined and labelled as Christmas I find them all utterly repellent, hollow and unfulfilling.
I think it is the enforced nature of it I resent and disruption to normal service and false sentimentality. Aside from the inescapable commercialism of it. On the flipside you'll never find me more positive and upbeat than in January, a month many people find depressing, I love January because the whole sorry mess of it is never further away.

An up and coming band from the North East, playing music they describe as 'grooving sophisticated filth' Been fortunate to see them playing the local toilet circuit and a few small festival shows. Always impressed with their musicianship and energy they put into every single show they play. Hard to pigeonhole, I hear obvious psychedelic references in the music, unashamedly arty influences and stage energy of punk. Currently preparing new material and gigging relentlessly, maybe check them out and tell me what you think.

A SOBO, SEBO or SWBO if you will. I think it's only right and proper that it should be called ASBO - A Southern Bake Off Love it! It must be this.

They'll be amongst the many of my wife's portfolios stored in the loft.
My current back pain notwithstanding I'll be going up there next weekend to rummage for the Christmas decorations (yes I won't have them up until week beforehand) and have a look for them.

With regard to our NEBO get togethers many have said previously on various forums that they wished there was a southern equivalent. A SOBO, SEBO or SWBO if you will. I think it could be quite popular and we'll attended.
Location and timing dependant, don't be too surprised if you saw some cross pollination from attendees of the NEBO and MiBO making the journey to support this one too.
Pls keep me posted of developments.
Cheers

Hi all, some of you may already be aware of the NEBO (North East Bake Off) events which have been held for audio and music enthusiasts over the last few years.
For the uninitiated, these are a full day get together, usually in a pub/hotel in the Teesside/Co Durham area where we gather together systems and kit, have a few drinks and let it rip for the day. It is friendly, informal and down to the the participants to ensure we get to hear as much kit as possible and give everyone a fair crack of the whip. I will act as a master of ceremonies of sorts.
We normally aim to book a venue with accommodation at the budget end of the scale so those that would like to travel from afar can have a drink, and food will be available to purchase at the venue.
Having taken over as organiser from the venerable Progmeister Steve (aka Floyddroid on AoS) who has done a brilliant job for the previous events, I'm looking to organise the next one in early to mid May and putting this thread up to gauge interest.
So if it sounds like your cup of tea then post here to say you're interested, what you might bring (even if that's just some interesting music you'd like to play) and I'll start putting wheels in motion in the new year.
I will then send you a personal invitation and confirm the venue and accommodation details in due course.
All the best.
