Never used. Plug too short for my 'shaft' and I now use a Wynchwood Audio one anyway. Normal rrp £39.99, I'll take £25 plus p&p probably a couple of quid.

I am hearing rumours of a management change at the intended venue and have been unable to reach the contact there.
It seems I may need to think of a plan B so for now we'll have to put this event on hold until further notice.
Nowts ever bloody simple is it....

Thanks guys, even if its a half dozen of the north east lads we'll have a chuckle. Singularity - you expressed an interest. I'd look forward to seeing you there if you can make it. Cheers Rich. I hope I can make it. I'm probably better than 50/50 but will only know closer to the time. If I'm in Britain at that time, it won't be far to travel for me. I'm curious as to the location (Blckhill?) How did it end up out there? Chance and coincidence really. The previous organiser who I've taken over from was from Teesside and the first meet was held at a cafe/bar owned by a friend of his on Hartlepool marina. Needing a bigger venue it moved to the Windmill hotel just off the A19 which was perfect, good room, location, food etc. However the management changed there and it became too expensive I believe so he looked for alternative locations. One meet was held in a pub and the room didn't really work for some reason, nobody was really happy with the sound so the Chimneys was chosen for the last meet and it worked well. There are two decent rooms, separated by a door, one larger than the other which means that whilst one system is playing others can be assembled without too much disruption. The acoustics worked well, food and drink and digs were reasonable (basic but sufficient for our needs). Teesside works better than a Tyneside/Northumberland location for people who travel from the South as well as the North. Previous meets have seen people travelling from as far as Wales and the Midlands, Yorkshire and Scotland.

Starting a new thread to confirm venue and date.
Saturday 6th May 2017
The Chimneys Hotel East Street Blackhall Colliery Hartlepool TS27 4HA
10am til closing time
Since it worked well the last time I've gone for the same venue. Food and drink is available at very reasonable prices all day long.
Accommodation is available onsite for those who want to make a night of it at the rate of £40 for a single room or £70 for a twin/double inc breakfast. This can be booked by contacting the hotel directly on 0191 586 8248. The landlady is Anne Telford. Be sure to mention the HiFi meetup when booking so she knows where the business is coming from! The cost of the venue for the day is £75, there will be an honesty jar for donations towards the costs as has been the way with previous meets. Any excess of funds will be donated to charity.
As I've previously mentioned, this will be a private function and I will be confirming invitations later today by PM to all who have expressed an interest so far. If you haven't done so yet, you need to let me know if you'd like to attend and if there is anyone else you'd like to come along.
If for any reason, the above date isn't suitable for longstanding attendees then we do have some flexibility to choose another Sat in May but I'd need to know sooner rather than later to pin it down.
All the best.
Rich

Also like so many others in the 90s I got into DJing and had a pair of decks. Had my fair share of bass gear, PA gear and mixers over the years too.

Was always a bit obsessed with the parents old Sony music centre as a kid and by the age of 10 the portable radio ghetto blaster had found its way into my bedroom with Dad's 70s Sony headphones and I began recoding songs from the radio and making tapes of my own pretend radio shows.
Around the age of 11 a Matsui music centre with twin tape deck turned up for Christmas. This was played to death until I left school and began working.
As soon as I had an income I bought an Akai mini system and a mate who was much older than me invited me round to hear his kit. A rotel amp and enormous pair of Mordaunt Short floorstanders with his laserdisc player. My little Akai paled into insignificance next to this.
Around this time the same guy also introduced me to the joys of cannabis. Both my new hobbies were made for each other and a visit to the old Bill Hutchison hifi shop in Newcastle saw me come home with a pioneer amp, stable platter CD player, mission speakers and stands and a Sony tape deck. This system would suffice up to my mid 30s as I became distracted with building PCs and using rubbish surround systems for gaming and music. I eventually lost interest in ganja but the music and hifi habit stayed. The rest is history.

I'd probably spend most of it on women, boozing and gambling. The rest I'd just waste. ;-)
Seriously though, I don't play the lottery having long ago decided it is a stealth tax on the poor and gullible.
Back when I was poor student and having lived in a fairly deprived area, it would make me sad to see the queues of mostly old folks at the corner shop on a Saturday teatime handing over loads of money for the faint hopes of winning something for their families. Even today I see people who can't really afford it buying scratchcards for £5 or £10 a pop all to entertain the fantasy of escaping a miserable existence. It just makes me sad.
Anyway, assuming I did come into that kind of money I'd pay off mortgages for myself and close family. Probably have a pretty home, nothing too flash, on my beloved Northumberland coast and certainly do a lot of travelling. Another modest winter home in the Florida Keys would be nice. Fair to say that a reasonable proportion would be invested to give an income I could then live on and share with good causes.
Very easy to get caught up in the fantasy isn't it.

Definitely seasonally affected for me.
Tend to be less grumpy and fed up in the warmer and lighter months.

As a music lover I don't think I could ever be a serious collector. Tastes too varied, not wealthy enough.

Interesting thoughts guys.
Like big shiny VU meters, glowly tubes, 60s wooden music centres and light up jukeboxes I think I just like the way they look.
Whether I'd actually have any of these things in the house is an entirely different matter.

Bruce talks about that concert in his autobiography. He was annoyed by the pre-concert publicity, always believed that you needed to *show* the audience what you were about, not *tell* them in advance. He did not enjoy the performance but in retrospect realises it was one of the legendary concerts. They did have something to prove, and I think managed it well. An unbelievably good set-list IMO. Just started on the biography the other day. Good so far. I'll get stuck into it properly this weekend.

Kraftwerk - Minimum-Maximum is a great live album, captures them really well. Was fortunate enough to see this show in Brixton and it is one of my favourite live albums too. A few others which always get me going.. The Who - Live at Leeds. Not a particularly great recording but as a bass player I'm in awe of the Ox's performance on this one. It sounds like it could all fall apart at any moment and he keeps it all together. Dave Brubeck Quartet - Live at Carnegie Hall. Those drums, the atmosphere. Great recording for its day. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band - Hammersmith Odeon. The sound of a hungry young band who know they're going places. Again, it gets muddled at times but the energy and passion is all there.

Why do audiophiles dislike them?
I was browsing randomly last night and came upon a site selling their XLS series. Specs wise they're pretty sensitive, nice big drivers which the massive JBL crowd would like, reasonably cost effective compared to huge tannoys etc, yet I don't know anyone who's got them, or even heard them.
Is it right that we continue to swerve them? If so why? Is it their reputation as party house speakers? Admittedly the last time I heard any was at a techno house party in the mid 90s. They were fun as I recall but then nobody was seriously listening. Is that all they're good for, pumping bass and no 'sweetness'.
Thoughts.
Btw I've always like those imposing red driver surrounds. Cabinet build doesn't look great on newer models though.
