Don't forget that Bryston use the Pi as the basis for their base model streamer. To me that means that it's perfectly fit for the purpose...

This is to do with the pressing plant quality control and how often the heads are replaced if they are running from the identical second generation master copies, just good house keeping. The same for any optical media, I have three copies of the original Blade movie on DVD (don't ask why ) and yet one is head and shoulder above the other both in terms of picture and sound quality this copy was manufactured in Italy in 2000, the others are Germany versions. This is why I do not use any optical media these days if possible, even video games I download, ut I do have a 300meg pipe so appreciate not the same for everyone. Always used to be, especially for vinyl. In 'the old days' it was often the case that DG issues that came from Germany had better sound quality than the UK version. I don't see why CD's shouldn't be the same.

I've had items I have bought which have been delivered to the wrong address and given an illegible signature ... Most of the deliveries I've had that require my signature need me to scrawl on a well worn touch screen which only partly works and however careful I am the end result probably would not stand up in a law court as proof of it being me. Maybe a photo would be better ?

When I was young, my dream job was an airline pilot. Until my sight put paid to that. Now, I'm not so sure it's all it's cracked up to be. Me too (though maybe half the population would say that !)

I used to live in Great Bedwyn before moving 'up north'. If the choice of accessible hifi dealers is still as good as it used to be, I envy you !

.... I'm currently in a one month free trial and I've yet to decide whether to carry on with it. One Month Trial up, and having seen the opposition I can't say there's much between them, each has its idiosyncrasies, so I've paid my £199 for a one year subscription.

Me also, no problems with the CD quality stream. To my ears it's the same as my 16/44 FLAC rips.
One problem with the searching is the 'release date' which usually shows a date that's nothing like the real release date (maybe it's the date that Qobuz acquired them ?) There's no real composer search either, you just take pot luck on that one.
I don't like the fact that many albums are the 'extended version' with a load of tracks that I don't really want.
I'm currently in a one month free trial and I've yet to decide whether to carry on with it.
(fyi I use Bubble UPnP on a Samsung tablet as controlling software, into my Cyrus StreamXSig)

Everybody told me not to worry about being bored when I retired as I'd be able to do all those things I always wanted to.
That's all very well, but as seems to happen to so many people, within a few months of retirement illness started to limit what I'm able to do. I've now (4 years later) managed to do 'all those things...' that I'm able, and indeed started to get bored.
There's only so much time you can spend listening to music and watching films until you get bored with that too.

...........I’m spending 90% of my time listening to headphones as they take room issues out of the equation ......... If you could sort out your 'room issues' would you still use the headphones, or would you then prefer to listen through speakers ? I ask because I too have room issues but I just don't like listening through headphones. Even with those issues unsolved I'd prefer speakers. Maybe I'm not paying enough for my headphones ?!

Amuses me that some of the titles on Prime Video are chargeable, when they're on a terrestrial TV channel for free.
I use Prime Video a lot but sorry can't think of any way you can generate a list of the free ones.
(the Marvel series are free on Prime)

My musical knowledge started with my parents. Useful to discover music. Never a fan of The King and I soundtrack though. Saw the odd bit of black and white TV with a lot of stuff that didn't do anything for me. For some reason the old man was dead unimpressed with Bill Haley .. ? Listening to the radio things were changing. There was music that was very good indeed. I would listen on a transistor radio in the kitchen to Top of the Pops. The Beatles started what we know as modern music and I loved them. First ever record was With the Beatles The music industry grew hugely as a result. Money may have been an incentive. So many bands and artists came from nowhere and so many of them were so wonderfully good. Blues (GB version), Prog and all the others and I was in my teens and loving it. Anyone born later would not have had the explosions heard on the radio for the first time. Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, Jimi Hendrix, Cream Never growing up I experienced Punk and post punk as a child in the head thanks to John Peel How about yours ? I think we must be the same age - I too grew up with B&W TV though in those days I don't recall any music programs on the TV. I was in a cultural desert as neither of my parents had the slightest interest in music. First intro to music was via Radio Caroline, late at night on a transistor radio. Finally got a dirt cheap record player and a few Beatles albums. Not until Uni did I get to hear 'decent' music in the shape of Klimax Chicago, ELO, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd etc..

It's a circular thing. The more music I listen to, the more I want to improve my system to get the most from the music. The more my system improves, the more pleasure I get from the music, hearing things that I didn't before.

I used to spend ages scanning typed/word processed pages, via OCR, to put them into a printed magazine. Inevitably it then took ages to proof read the results and correct the mistakes. Scanning anything hand written was totally out of the question - it was quicker to re-type them.
I know my Android pad can do a reasonable job of turning 'handwriting' (i.e. input using the stylus) into printable text, but I doubt anything can handle the sort of hand written input you're talking about.
I'd love to be proven wrong..

That's a major turnaround on the photos - for many years they insisted the photo must be from a 'photo-booth' and most definitely would not even accept selfies however good they were.

One of my pet hates is the number of times amazing pictures are shown without bothering to say that they're 'tweaked' or in worst cases just cgi...
